That was indeed an awesome link- thanks!

I see echoes of my own experiences in there. It took years of gaming & metal (both oddities for a black kid) for my Mom to express concern for me being a Satanist- but only one exposure to my game books for some of my other relatives...and as mentioned before, not a single priest so much as peeped.

Has she read "The Chronicles of Prydain" by Lloyd Alexander? They're excellent; especially if you like Celtic culture. The Book of Three is the first one.

I gotta step in here and second this suggestion. When I was a child, I was a slow reader, and fell behind the rest of my 3rd grade class in reading by the end of my first semester. It was at that point my teacher introduced me to the Book of Three, and by the end of the school year, I was well ahead of everyone else in reading. The Chronicles of Prydain are a phenomenal series to help a young person get into fantasy. I still take the time to read it at least once a year, 20 years later.

I'm lucky... My dad was an English teacher, and at one point in the height of the anti-D&D craze, the school admins decreed that any kid caught playing or carrying D&D material should be sent immediately to the office...

He obviously didn't comply- he even let the D&D kids hide out in his study hall if they wanted a "safe zone." :P
