Is everyone aware that the VTT has no rules associated with it?

It is a digital kitchen table. It doesn't calculate anything.

Yes, we are aware of it. We are discussing the character creator and similar tools.

Although I may add that I'd much rather have a VTT with rules. I sorely wanted one for 3.5 and even if 4th edition is simpler as we are being promised, it would still be quite useful.

I am shocked, shocked that the DDI is behind schedule and the most important part, the character generator, won't be available when the rules are released. Shocked.

Many of us predicted that WotC couldn't pull this off. Many of us were ridiculed as being negative. What we did was, we looked at their record of digital work, and deduced that they wouldn't pull it off this time either.

Really, is anyone surprised by this?

Technically, that says that D&D Insider will launch in June, not that those applications will definitely be out then.

Kinda like the bard. Good things come to those who wait, I guess.

Did Bill state something other than that in his Ampersand column? Because I am pretty sure he says this: "D&D Insider’s free beta period coincides with the launch of 4th Edition".

That sounds like a launch. And as I recall from Gencon he was very clear that not every aspect of the DDI would be in at launch, and unless you have something that says "X is in at launch" I just don’t any reason for all the hating.

It says in that article that the DDI will launch with the PHB. It says the DDI will include the generator. How is that not late, if it isn't launching with the PHB? I'm not trying to be obtuse, but I think it clearly states that the DDI will launch, not a beta. It clearly states that it will include the character generator and the game table.
