Well something similar happened in a Fantasy Hero game that I ran in several years back.

We had just arrived at a castle out in a desert that was being used as a strong point by a invading lizardman army. Once we fought our way into the castle we found a archway which we belived the invading army was using to teleport troops in. It was inactive at the time but our resident dark loner fighter/rogue type noticed some dried blood on the archway. We had some regular soliders with us so he grabs one who was by the archway, cuts his throat and splashes his blood the archway. It suddenly activated with a swirling vortex effect. Everyone was stunned at his action. He looked around at our shocked faces and then jumped in the vortex. We never saw him again. :D

we saw older kids playing this in the park and decided to try it. we asked my dad for some "plastic pipe" and explained what we were going to do. he says "just use broomsticks, don't hit in the head and don't tell your mother."

i am sometimes amazed at what we survived.

and as for dean, when i think about it now, i don't think he ever played anythig but a thief. but he would have fought dirty as a paladin too :)

This reminds me of a funny story :).

One of my gamer friends' nephew was having a birthday party (his 7th or 8th I believe). Since the kid's dad and uncles were all gamers, he wanted to have a "dragon Slaying" for his birthday. My buddy got a dragon suit, they'd give all the kids cardboard swords, and they could all slay the dragon.

Unknown to him, while he's getting suited up his mom finds that the swords wouldn't stay straight. Being very handy with the crafts, she gets some wooden rods and glues them to the swords, which does an excellent job of keeping them straight.

It also did a great job of beating the crap out of my buddy. The tape is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, a guy in a dragon suit coming around the corner, and a dozen kids dogpiling him and beating him with wooden sticks.

:D

Hmmm, in 3rd edition, how would you do a trap like that where you pull the rope and it is pretty much guarenteed that the person (or people) pulling it dies? Isn't there a max damage cap of 20d6 for even the most heinous traps? That's only about 70 damage average.

Heh, haven't run it in 3.0 - ran it in OD&D,and both 1e and 2e AD&D.

As for how to handle it in 3e - simple, drop it on 'em while they are still low level! (Hmm, it toes 20 d6 damag - what the higest lHP in the party is 12? Ooops! *Shrug*)

The Auld Grump, who stopped using that trap about 10 years ago, it's just too funny not to talk about...

Happened then, still happens now. After much deliberation and contemplation, one player in the group always ends up saying, "Aw, screw it, I'm going in!!". They never learn.

The variation on this is the Big Red Button that has a sign, "Do Not Push." How long do you think it stays unpushed? Can you walk away from it?

In an online game, "Kingdom of Drakkar", there is a door with a sign, "Open this door and you will die. It's that simple."

The door always got opened.
