D&D Miniature Accessories?

So does anyone know if WoTC plans to make any accessories for their miniatures? The Fane of the Drow is a good starting point, but I'd like to see some pre-painted terrain or features like Mage Knight had for their Dungeon Set or some cheaper alternative to the resin stuff out there right now.

I've been getting a lot of use out of the stuff I use for my Warhammer stuff, but I'd like the material to be scaled and marked so that i don't have to bust out a tape measurer when using it for RPG.

I'd also like them to change the bases of the figures to something with some texture on it. The plain feature is okay, but I'd like to see them actually make it part of the figure in a meaningful way outside of a stablizing platform. Stones or dungeon tiles maybe?

If they plan something like that, they haven't said yet.

That's a shame. With their 3-D maps, Piazo doing the Encounter line, and they themselves doing Fane of the Drow, I was hoping that it was the start of something... bigger.

One of the odd things is that WoTC hasn't really been making even the useful accessories you'd think are standard.

Official carrying cases for the miniatures.

Official life point trackers.

Official program to print out your warbands or something.

There are so many little areas where I think WoTC is just missing the boat. They need to look at some of the stuff (gasp!) Games Workshop is doing in terms of providing "official" content. People will buy it!

Heck, I'm surprised we haven't seen a Miniature's Handbook 2.0 just for the miniatures though with some more common scenarios and other stuff.

Or a guide for collecting them? Repainting them? So many options with the little buggers.

JoeG,
I think your ideas are great.
I also wish they put out some sort of program to keep track and sort what you have.
An example is when I have an enounter with 9 creatures of some sort that I know I dont have nine of it would be nice to look to see what I do have nine of.

Other accessories would also be nice such as treasure chests, loose weapons, bags, barrels, chairs, etc. Anything in scale and in the same price line for a boatload of them as the mini's currently are.

Yes a book on how do modify mini's, sort them, etc. even without new skirmish rules would be really nice also.

Lot of mini questions today, something bring this about ?

I like the Dwaven Forge: Master Maze 3D stuff. I heard WOTC has a program to keep track of your minis/ warbands. But it does not come with an installer. You have to run it from the net.

You can download and run the Warband Generator from the Wizards site. There are a few freeware tracking programs as well.

I seem to remember a couple of web articles about improving the bases of miniatures.

There is a Colossal Figure (probably a colossal Red Dragon) in the works; it just hasn't been officially announced yet.

Tables, etc? It's possible we may see them in the future. It's worth noting that furniture packs may be quite expensive: I remember the cost of the Mage Knight dungeon packs, etc. It wasn't that cheap. The Fantastic Locations are part of their first step into a brave new world of accessories.

Cheers!
