D&D miniatures Military Campaign rules???

T-Bone

First Post
We're going to start playing some D&D miniatures skirmishes for yhe next few weeks.

I think it would be nice to have some kind of campaign, where winning players grow in territory, an losers lose some of thier territory.

Maybe kind of like several kingdoms at war with one another. Are there any rules systems that would do this well. We would still run battles as small skirmishes, but need rules for how to make it mean something from week to week, and where players could choose which territories they were fighting over, and thus, gang up on the dominant army, or take advantage of the week one with few resources.

Part of the new Dragon mag article on Birthright mentioned something about during play testing they had some kind of campaign like that. I know NOTHING of Birthright though.

Any help, suggestions?

There's a game book that just came out that is probably what you're looking for.

Games Workshop just put out "The General's Compendium" for their Warhammer Fantasy Miniature battles game. It's softcover, about 25 USD$, and is chock full of rules and advice on running fantasy wargame campaigns in the Warhammer, or your own, fantasy world. The book is about the same size as a D&D hardcover, is full of full color photographs, rules, battle scenarios and how-to instructions for making terrain and other hobby projects.

You don't have to play the Warhammer miniatures game to use these rules; they work for any game system. There's special features on running ship-boarding actions and naval campaigns. There's even advice on how to run a Miniatures gaming club.

I can't recommend this book enough--it's the best value that Games Workshop has come up with in years.

If you want something D20, then Empire covers both land and armies in sufficient detail for this kind of campaign, at whatever scale you like.
