October 29, 2003 (Renton, Wash.) - Wizards of the Coast, Inc., a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), today announced that since their release on September 26, Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures have passed the million milestone. To date, Wizards of the Coast has sold more than a million miniature figures, which are available in randomized Entry Packs and HarbingerT Expansion Packs.

I'm really happy about that. :)

Incidentally, Mike Donais posted on the WotC boards about the cancellation of the preconstructed sets. Here's what he had to say:

In regards to the 'customer feedback' they may have been referring to the interest from retailers and distributors.

Apparently there was less interest than expected in these non-random packs and much more interest than expected in the random packs.

It makes sense though since the non-random minis are from set 1 and set 2 will be out at that time. Also the random packs are selling great and often retailers want less things on the shelf for inventory risk.

Fortunately by not putting those out (having less unique products and saving money) we can now work some other really cool stuff that has been suggested on these very boards. I can't give the details on them but I am glad to be doing them.

Cheers!

Most of the packs at my FLGS were bought by four guys

No one seems to be playing the game locally, but there are a few rabid collectors...

I'm one of those rabid collectors. I'm done buying boosters until the next set is out, but I'm looking forward to grabbing some secondary market rares and uncommons (such as....gnolls.)

Anyway, I don't play the mini game either; I am using them for D&D.

I'm curious - is anyone playing the skirmish game?

I tried it out, but wasn't too impressed (though I only have 1 entry pack and so not a great figure selection)

If the minis are doing so good, then what is the "business-related" part of WotC killing off the Orc War Party and Outlaw War Party nonrandomized packs? And I'd love to hear how player input helped get those canned (I am of the opinion that WotC said that so that they wouldn't look so bad, and that no such input was used).

I play the skirmish game AND use the miniatures in my DnD campaign. I really enjoy the skirmish game. Once you play it a time or two, the rules are clear and the game is quick to play. There is an abundance of variety, and even more ideas now that we've picked up the Miniatures Handbood.
