D&D Minis: Chase Rares!!

It just gets to me - having read so much of Mike's posts when he was a regular person... and all of a sudden he's employed by Wizards and talking about "we".

Wow.

Cheers!

We are NOT doing chase rares.

Epic is our new name for 500 point play. Some figures come with two stat cards: a normal one for 200 point play, and a second, epic one for 500 point play.

Thanks for looking in.

My take on this:
Yes, there are chase-rares, and have always been. We'll always chase the dragons and big evil monsters (like beholder) and novelties (like the first large mounted figure). But they are chase rares only because they're cool, not because they are ultra-rare (or anything other than "regular rare"). Actually, I consider some non-rares to be chase-figures (destrachan for example - first non-rare large figure).

I like how the epic format will not be limited to Underdark or some special sets.

Anyone know whether they will release epic stats for those old minis that should be epic? (Mordy anyone?)

It will stop being *WE* the first time that some Hasbro Vice Predident needs to bump up his stock options portfolio and decides Hasbro/WotC needs to reduce their human capital real quick, watching good people being fired so some exec can finish paying off his yacht will serve as a reminder of who the *WE* really is...

IMHO not to sound too snarky ;)

So, a common set is 12 minis. IMO, a reasonable shipping charge for 12 minis is $5-$8 (depending on packaging and distance).
Maybe if some of the minis are Larges, or if the trade is truly international (as opposed to simply to or from fellow North Americans). Otherwise, $3.00 is plenty to ship 12 medium D&D minis. You can be absolutely certain that anything over that is pure profit for the seller.

Let me just say that I love that you're still posting on ENWorld even though you're at Wizards now!

You might consider editing your title - Given that fairly official word has come down that there are not chase rares.

Just a friendly suggestion :D

They already DID chase figs: Rare Huges in Giants of legend, 1 every 3 boosters.

I understand the sentiment quite well, but in no way were they chase rares in the same fashion that other companies do... where you get 1 chase rare per CASE (if that), and there are 6 or more chase rares.

It was a split rarity system that had the "rare huges" about the same rarity as normal rares. If you got 2 cases, you were assured of getting 6 huge rares (which is all there were), and trading would allow you to complete the set.

Just wait for set rotation!

The official word on set rotation is that they're not doing it (yet). Instead, they'll examine older sets every so often, and instead of rotating the entire set they'll ban the few figures that prove troublesome.

Cheers!
