D&D Minis & Lead Paint?

This isn't meant to be alarmist and it isn't meant to bash WotC in any way.

With the recent scandal involving toys made in China with excessive lead content in the paint, has any thought been put in how safe D&D minis are? They're really small and if there's lead in the paint, it would be easy for a small child to imbibe that by accident.

Anyone know?

There is a long thread on the WotC boards about this. They stated they do extensive testing and are confident there isn't lead.

I asked a while ago on the DDM forums:

http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=898233

The official response I got from Hasbro on it was this:
Hey there James. We appreciate the concern you have for your children’s safety. As a game company we're committed to providing safe products for our customers and we would like to assure you that our minis products meet or exceed federal safety standards including those for lead in paint. Additionally, it's important to note that due to the small size of our minis products the suggested age for both Star Wars Minis and D&D Minis is 12 and up. if you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us with them in the future.

There's more danger of nerds losing a DDM match and punching someone than there is of our kids being harmed by lead paint on their toys.

Tangentially...

Going back before DDM, though, remember that all minis used to be made of lead. Big grey lumps of it...

I must have 100lbs+ of the stuff around here in Grenadiers, Ral Parthas and Heritage sculpts. (Perhaps more incentive to paint the older minis, yes?)

That, of course, led to the switch to pewters before the advent of plastic minis.
