D&D Minis: When do the repaints stop?

People at DDMspoilers and Maxminis seem to be against reprints, saying that will lower collection value. Not my case, Wotc, feel free to remake Dragoneye's Red Dragon :P

At this moment I'd rather see new sculpts reflecting new races (Devas, Goliaths) and new monster visuals.

I don't mind the "repaints" at all. It still adds variety I think. If it was just a reprint (same color)...then I'd be annoyed.

Besides, those same people who complain about what lowers their collection value don't mind buying minis from certain "Walmart-like" miniature sellers on Ebay that undercut prices. Those sellers cause our collections to drop in value more than anything...yet everyone loves to buy minis at such cheap prices  ....and people complain about reprinted minis lowering values?

I'm thinking about repainting that guy as a Goliath.

Oooh! He'd make a great Goliath! yoinked!

I'm cool with repaints, personally. The only thing I want more of is Dragonborn. I actually have every dragonborn mini released, along with the draconians and half dragons, yet it's still a very, very small baggie in the box.

Otherwise, I'm happy with how the PH: Heroes boxes are coming along.

I don't mind repaints of really good sculpts. There have been several PC-worthy minis in the past that deserve to make a return. Human Wanderer (from Harbinger) is still my favorite ranger-like mini.

This. I generally liked the repaints in the retailer kits more than the originals and paint variety is also nice when you have a small squad or even players playing twins. The repainted Cleric of Nerull, Drow Sniper and Daring Rogue were great (for example).

Anyone worried about their "collection value" is already delusional. These are toys/game pieces, not an investment. Anyone thinking otherwise is an example of what P.T. Barnum said.

In other words: No reasonable person should expect a used pop-o-matic to net them a steak dinner.

Apparently repaints do reduce the value of the original figures on the secondary market, so it is not unreasonable for those who utilize that secondary market to dislike the idea of repaints.

To me a repaint is a new figure. Granted, I only buy figures for in game use and would be a casual collector at best, but with a new paintjob, it is a new figure.

As for the collector's value, that is a guess made of mist in the best of circumstances. If looking for a real investment, gold or stocks would be a better choice.

And who would not mind having a few gold coins sitting around?
