D&D Monsters that look sci-fi

How about those crazy hippo men with arquebus's from Planescape. I loved those guys.

Those were the Giff, and they were from Spelljammer.

Oh, and I'll add GIANT SPACE HAMSTERS to the list!

I was in the mood to look at strange monsters, so I figured what better place to start than my trusty old 1E Fiend Folio.

I think the Achaierai, Bloodworm, Gorbel, Grell, Khargra, Mezzodaemon, Phantom Stalker, Ssendam the slaad lord, Sussurus, Tentamort, Thoqqua, Tiger Fly, Spirit Troll, Vodyanoi, and Xill all fit the bill of “weird looking” that I’m looking for!

Blech. Did they have to spell out the acronym in the flavour text? Having a D&D monster with a name like SCUBA or LASER just doesn't work for me.

Boz - "Laser" has become an accepted word in its own right, but it started off as an acronym: "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiaton."

And I agree with Hypersmurf about the CIFAL - Blecch! That's not D&Dish at all.

Trolls. You've got to have at least one large semihumanoid race that acts as the perfect unstoppable bodyguard. I'm thinking more the abilities rather than the illustration at this point.

Sahuagin look pretty cool.

And the Gibbering Mouther is just... perfectly weird.
