Well, it is a horror setting after all.Meaning Ravenloft is about to see a BOATLOAD of Tortles in AL play...
define what you mean by this?Okay here's two off the top of my head;
I'd like a Greyhawk or Mystara Setting mind you, but there are literally loads of possiblities if you want an actual new setting the question is what does WOTC want?
Ultimately its Wizard of the Coast that decides this.define what you mean by this?
A great setting and it is getting a 5e update. Edge Studios is working on it and it should be released this year.@Faolyn I mentioned Midnight, explicitly where the Evil Gods had conquered and won. >.>
Though Midnight is actually it's own entire game by Fantasy Flight, they made it available for the d20 system back in 3e.
They also made a Movie while trying to make it a TV Series.
look most of the old settings have lost the niche to others and would be difficult to sell to new fans.I don't see why WofC needs a new setting. They have lots of old settings that fans want updated and they can create new MtG settings to attempt to draw in Magic players to the game. These are lower cost options (the initial creative work is already done) with a better chance of being successful (they already have a fan base).
There are tons of new settings for 5e already produced and in the works by 3rd parties. If you want something new it is easy to find with lots of variety to choose from. Smaller companies can accept smaller sales and still make a profit, so it is not as much of a risk to them to produce something new and different. If you want new look at what is already out there.
I personally own over a dozen new setting for 5e by 3rd parties.
Reading this thread it is obvious that there are lots of different tastes and lots of different desires for what a new Setting should be. This makes it clear that WotC would have a hard time making something new that would make everyone happy.
So they are better off leaving such ventures to other companies which are currently doing a great job already. Expand your horizons beyond WotC and you might just find a setting that matches what you are looking for.
possibly but what does it have other than the basic premise to sell it to people?Has Thunder Rift been mentioned yet?
With a bit of tinkering it could set in any of the popular settings an enclosed area where society has been existing since the earliest settlers found themselves stranded here.
And a number of adventures that eventually leads to them finding a way out.
Imagine at least a half dozen scenarios before running the one that ends with them finding a way out to discover they're on.... cue dm's favourite setting regardless of the original being set on Mystara this could easily be added to Faerun, Exandria, Oerth, etc...
Could that work?
