Work-in-progress D&D Next is my current. Published D&D Next will be my next. Boxed set, books, I'll take them all - what else is D&D for than blowing the budget on?
Till then, I'll do my small part to steer D&D Next away from messiness and towards cohesion.
My intention is to give it a look over once its out, but I'm not commiting to buying it. Been burned on too many RPGs with slick covers/layout and poor play values (2E L5R, I'm looking at you).
DnDNExt is my current game and will remain my current game. I've not had this much fun since 2nd edition. It's fast, easy, and flexible and all my players love it. We never liked 4th ed and I cannot imagine going back to the unnecessary complexity that is Pathfinder.
Really. When was the last time someone here actually thought about a subject, took feedback, and admitted fault.
I applaud you, Sir or Madam.
Welcome to the club. Here is your Skill die. (You may need to give that back in a few weeks, though)
Agreed. I've been playing for 20 years and running these playtests is the most fun I've ever had with D&D. I love the depth of Pathfinder but hate the complexity. I love the simpleness of Savage worlds but it's a little too shallow for me. D&D Next (so far) is hitting this perfect sweet spot in the middle. All of the depth with none of the complexity.
I'm very fond of the direction it's moving too. Unless they take a very random strange turn in another direction, I'll definitely be picking this up on day one.
After two years, my current 3.5e campaign is about to wrap up. After which, I'm taking a long break from D&D of all sorts (to run SWSE and then, probably, "Black Crusade" for a year or so each, and then who knows).
So it's entirely possible that by the time I get back D&D-Next-but-one will turn out to be my next.
