the Jester
Legend
Mearls character is what is wrong with dungeons and dragons and to see this kind of pure stupidity from the lead designer is just horrible. It was not funny just juvenile and pathetic.
BADWRONGFUN ALERT!!
I was meaning as it currently is being developed/tested ie NEXT, not the hobby as a whole. When the lead designer doesn't take a video of a demo game that is supposed to encourage people to purchase the product seriously what does he consider important. Showing up to something like this not prepared and then turning it into a joke and basically being a tool that wants to show off how he can "roleplay" a joke character.
We don't need rules to have immature players, ill prepared players, comic-relief is not something dependent on mechanics. As the face of D&D NEXT and the head of it's design I was greatly disappointed.
Sorry you feel that way, but you appear to be in the minority on this. I thought MC Killzalot was awesome and hilarious, and I have far less interest in watching a solemn demo than I do a funny, entertaining, fun-looking playtest.
Very true at our games as consumers. Not true when it is a video designed to spur interest in a game and show off in house playtesting. I said all along Mearls was a very poor choice to lead this thing and now it seems I am being proven right. It is like he doesn't care about the game or his job.
If by "being proven right" you mean "maintaining my opinion". I think Mearls was a great choice and is doing a very fine job. And as far as caring about the game or his job, have you ever listened to the man talk about it? He very clearly cares, it's obvious and he doesn't do anything to hide it. He loves the game. If he didn't, I'd be worried.
Just because the playtesters aren't solemn when performing for the camera doesn't mean the process is terrible. It means that they want the game to be fun.
