Seriously, I think he's pro human: Those buggers can't wrap their head around the idea of respecting nature, either. They die too fast, that's the problem. Don't give a damn about the the air not being breathable in 60 years because they'll be dead (or undead, and thus not breathing, either).

Elves know that they'll reap what they sow, so in order to be as selfish as humans, they have to respect nature so they will be able to have a place to live a little while (couple of decades) later.

It's totally natural. Sure, it'll have hot flashes for a while and maybe a little irritability, but some hormone therapy and it should be just fine. It's a natural part of aging.
