D&D Resolutions

To ground myself with a single campaign that I will continue to run throughout 4E's lifespan (and beyond). I get way too many campaign ideas running through my head and I find it difficult to focus on only one. Unfortunately, this means I miss out on the benefits a lasting campaign can bring...like high-level characters.

Run something starting in January.
Stop reading 4E threads.
Use saved time to plan next campaign.

January 6th, and I've already broken all three. Maybe the campaign will start in February (getting busy 40somethings together can be such a pain), and how will I get to 1000 posts if I don't post to 4E?

Well, I managed to succeed in reaching two of my goals for '07 (ie DM a game of OD&D; and host and complete a pbp adventure for some close friends) so let's see how we go with this list for '08.

  1. Wing it more but be better organised
  2. Fun should always beat rules
  3. DM a game at the first Gen Con in Australia
  4. DM another game of OD&D
  5. Combine goals 1, 2, 3 and 4 for extra bonus points!
  6. Start a new 3.5 campaign this year
  7. Stick to my "roleplaying stuff" budget

When GM'ing:
Take notes of the names of all the NPC's I introduce, somehow the minor throw away ones always end up being important. Prepare for the game. Don't lose my notes. Know the plot better than the players. (Asking the players what the hell is going on is just embarasing)
Off topic but I strongly recommend creating a page full of random names first then just picking from the list and noting who the NPC is as required. I started doing this a year or so ago and it is a real boon. You're never stuck for name (and you're not forced to create silly names on the fly) and it makes you look like you always know what's going on.
