D&D School - How Did It Go?

A while ago there was a thread here on EN World about a D&D course being offered online and run by one of the designers from WotC. If I remember correctly, a few people from EN World (I remember diaglo was one) signed up for it. I'm interested in finding out how it went.

How long did it go for? What did you do? Did you get anything out of it? Would you do it again?

My wife did it and enjoyed it, though toward the end she thought it was getting too complicated and the instructor/mentor wasn't posting as much. She also thought that for a class designed to introduce new people to the game, there were far too many highly experienced people participating.

How would a newbie found out about it in the first place?

I ran through one at Barnes and Noble University, it wasn't all that great in my opinion. There was plenty of student participation but the instructor would not answer questions very frequently. It seemed more like a marketing tool to get you to buy a book (there was a paperback book that was required reading for the course).

that's the one. James Wyatt was the instructor.

it was geared for beginners but most of the class already knew the game.

it did have a lot more women than i thot it would which surprised me.

the threads were hard to follow. more like a newsgroup than a message board.

can't remember much. i think it was around 8 weeks. we wrote on topics. designed pcs. designed an adventure for them. and wrote backgrounds. then got feedback from each other and the instructor

i didn't get much out of it. but it did satisfy my curiosity.
probably do it again if it were more focused instead of general. (not just say all D&D. but say focusing on how to build a political system for your D&D campaign)
