D&D Storms into Theaters Nationwide

Wisdom Penalty

I haven't seen it, but it looks like the new movie Role Models is going to have a sterotypical D&D geek in it. The same kid who played McLovin in Superbad. Climax of the film is a LARP-like event.

Specific review quote:

..."Role Models" wobbles like crazy en route to a surprisingly strong finish. In this case, the film-saving sequence is a medieval battle reenactment, full of Dungeons & Dragons freaks spouting phony Elizabethan argot. The sweetest of the obsessives, Augie, is played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse, the fabulously adenoidal young actor who, in last year's "Superbad," turned one high school senior's adventures in fake IDs into comic gold. This is his second film. So far, at least when it comes to his scenes, so good.

I haven't seen Role Models yet, but yeah if he is as good as he was in Superbad he will steal the show just like he did in Superbad. I kept waiting for them to get back to his side of the story.

I saw this script a couple of years ago. They wanted to put D&D into it. The script was funny and I am sure the movie will be full of laughs but we passed. It was a little too laughing at not enough laughing with for our tastes.

On the other hand the new Futurama movie Bender's Game is awesome!!! We watched it yesterday and it is great. We were approached by the producers to include D&D into the storyline. There is also and extra where David X. Cohen talks about his early days of playing D&D. I want a Futurama DM screen.

Since your here Scott, I dunno if you would have been involved in it. But I remember discussion of giving Colbert a PHB, it didn't happen obviously. But just wondering how far that actually got?

We sent stuff to his agent but Andy Collins' dream of giving him one in person never happened, he's pretty big time now.

There is a huge difference between a D&D fan and a LARPer geek!!! (well, at least that's what I tell myself in the dark of night)

The day before Halloween, I decided to wear my costume to school (black clothes, black cloak, black leather hat with a large brim-- a witch hunter).

I've also got friends who're trying to start a boffering club at the college (boffering is fighting with foam-padded weapons). So I went down and helped them grab some weapons from their cars and bring them back to where they hang out on campus.

As we were walking back from the cars, I realized that here I was, wearing a cloak and hat I bought at a ren faire, carrying foam weapons... My god, I looked like a LARPer!

Was the first time the entire day I felt dorky. :D
