Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons is a co-op boardgame where you play a Dungeons & Dragons character class and take on iconic D&D monsters like beholders, dragons, and mimics. Announced by Ravensburger, the game is coming out August 10th and retails at $29.99. It's a special edition of the Horrified board game franchise and features 5 D&D classes and 4 classic monsters.

Players can choose from the bard, cleric, fighter, rogue, or wizard; and they will be opposed by dragons, beholders, mimics, and displacer beasts underneath the city of Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realms. In each game, the players will confront at least two of the four monsters.

The game also features puzzles, obstacles, and items (such as the Orb of Dragonkind) from D&D lore. It uses a d20--the die prominently featured in D&D's mechanics--in a departure from Horrified's usual task resolution.

Looks interesting, Also looks like a quick play, with a variety of things to do in a turn. (at least from the tom Vassel review of the original game). Did not care for Wrath of Aschardlon and the like.

Horrified is the perfect entry-level co-op game - we just played it the other night with a friend who isn't an experienced gamer and she wrapped her head around it within minutes. This seems like a fun variant, and I am interested to see how it works in the d20, so I'll be getting it for sure.

Heh, I just made my group play the new Builders of Baldur's Gate board game from Wizkids. We had fun, but it was somewhat complicated and off-putting for a couple of them. Perhaps D&D Horrified (or Horrified D&D) will be more their speed. For $30, its worth a shot!
