D&D World Cuisine...

I think it's an uncommon.

It's been a running joke (and campaign fact) since I first started running D&D for some of the old White Wolf crew that cave fisher is in fact delicious. Buttery crustacean delight, and usually you can harvest the perfect mushroom accompaniment in the cave system where you've made your kill.

One of the reasons I love fantasy games is that I can really get into food porn; it's an easy thing to describe fantasy variants on culinary staples. Some get weird. It wasn't D&D, but in another game the PCs were guests of an anthropomorphic spider-people, and much of the feast was served in liquid form: soups, broths, liquefied meats, and so on. Interestingly, the characters were utterly accepting of this, but flinched during the dessert course. It was just oranges -- but the way in which the Spinners bit into the peel, sucked the fruit utterly dry, and discarded an empty rind just creeped them out.

Which reminds me of Major Mosquito- my GURPS V:tM PC who was a blatant rip-off of The Tick (for the record, a Brujah who was crazy enough to be a Malkavian).

Except his "crime straws" were functional, and made of surgical steel.

Gregor any chance of getting a copy of your d100 chart? I am interested in adding foraging and wild plant ingredients into my campaign for added flavor.
Thanks
ED

I once ran a Halfling Ranger/Bard TWF build...with twin iron frying pans. His passion was cooking. If he killed it, he tasted it.

I see I'm not the only one to run a halfling adventurer gourmand.

Great thread.

I'll have what ultimoed's having.

Can you imagine a campaign based around the PCs being hired by a famous and wealthy chef to locate various specialty ingredients?

Hmmmm.... I like it, a nice twist on the standard "arcanist needs the eye of a newt, the tongue of a bullywug, etc...". Very interesting. I'll likely *yoink* this.

Gregor, I just shot you a PM as well. I've always wanted to add cool cuisine ideas to my games, but it's a detail that falls by the wayside.

I have just the other day been inspired to run another one at some point in the future.

The source of my inspiration? The classic arcade game, Gauntlet.

At some point, I want to be able to say:

"Ohhhh...Barbarian shot the food!"
