Pathfinder 1E D&D4 and Pathfinder can coexist

First Post
I am a professional forum lurker, both at enworld and rpg.net. I enjoyed reading the passionate discussions, but I didn't write much, specially because English is not my first language.

But I'm very tired. In these last months something changed, and the struggle between D&D4 and 3.5/Pathfinder fans has evolved to something nasty. It's not discussing anymore. It's critizising every single step the other "side" takes, it's wishing the failure of WotC or Paizo, it's the desire to destroy the "opponent".

And I don't understand it. I know fans can be very passionate, but I can read people who are completely blind when talking about the other side. Come on, D&D4 really improves many features, and Paizo and other companies employ some of the better writers in the game industry. We cannot afford loosing either WotC or the 3PP.

I know I'm not a "big name" in these forums, but please, stop it.

Yeah...

I'm seeing this type of thing happen in a lot of places anymore, not just game forums... The idea of you have to choose a side, and you either support everything that side says, or you risk letting the other side "win" has seemed to become dominant...

I have my own ideas as to some of the causes, but I think it's silly, and overall I'm with you in that I'm sad to see the idea infect the RGP "community."

Right now I'm playing D&D 4e. I'm glad Pathfinder is being made, because it gives people a chance to experience another game, or to continue having support for the system they want to play. The more games the better.

Just like I liked that Arcana Evolved was made, or Iron Heros, or Mutants and Masterminds, as well as GURPS and WoD games, or OSRIC, or Castles and Crusades, and any number of countless games.

Games are good. Games are fun. Why get angry at people for liking games? What's fun about that?

I think things are getting better. I see much less sniping now than a few months ago.

I think it's great that we have both alternatives.

Everyone's a winner, since both preferences are now supported. And for 4e fans, it's likely you'll have Necromancer on board soon, so you'll get more gaming goodness. For 3.5 fans, the Pathfinder beta launches this week! What's not to like?

I agree.

The conversation has turned from any sort of rational discussion of d20/D&D into a game of one-upmanship, a my version can beat up your version sort of flamewar that is not only boring to read, but pretty sad to think about. Everyone has made their point at least twice (if not more) about what they don't like about X and how Y is oh so superior. We get it. You hate X. You love Y.

Seriously, can we move on now?

You basically have to avoid reading any thread about the GSL or about third party publishing. If you do that, this forum is quite nice.

Dude Y is so sub-par! I mean al you can do is ask Y? Y Y Y???? At least X marks the spot!

errr... sorry... ;)

NO!

A fight to the death! THE DEAAAAAAAATH...

Why don't my gaming books bleed when I throw them at each other?

I for one don't like the fact that I'm physically unable to speed up time and have my beta now! Where's my time machine? Where are the flying cars? This is the future isn't it?

Nah dude, Agent Mulder and John Conner (and his psycho mom) both bought us some time until the future happens.
