D&D 4E D&D4E = Totally Anime

Note that Slayers does have non-funny episodes too....

Oh I know, but generally D&D campaigns that become Slayer-esque are usually full of funny sessions. While Lodoss does have its funny moments is generally more serious throughout (especially near the end).

I like anime in that they don't seem to forget that melee classes should be as impressive as the spellcasters.

That does seem to be a problem for many people that equate "fantastic, awe-inspiring" feats with spellcasters.

At this stage i couldn't care what 4e was compared to. People could say that its too similar to monopoly and it wouldn't matter. All i know is that i like it

But someone who's not into anime might look at 4e and think it resembles fantasy novels like Steven Brust's (his "Dragaera" series features abundant, reliable magic, extremely skilled swordsmen and rogue-types, and high-action combat, and was published starting in 1983), or action movies, or something else.

Steven Brust's "Jhereg" series is based on his old 1e D&D game (with several thousand house rules), so of course it feels like D&D..

D&D sucks up media influence like a sponge - that´s why it may be still relevant to people below 30, if we´re lucky. And this ability to change itself is the greatest asset D&D has - otherwise i wouldn´t play or DM it. There are too many other games out there.

Ah, the shilsen school of gamemastery at work?
:D

I have to admit, however, that in my case it's usually "You're going to want to die anyway. But you do get to choose why you're going to want to die."

Wow, I expected to read another anti-4e rant here, just like so many others we've seen in the last few weeks. Instead, I read a coherent, well thought-out opinion piece. Seeing as I am not well versed in Anime/Manga, I'll have to recuse myself from commenting on the actual case at hand, but the argument was very persuasive. Thanks for not ranting.
I agree, although I think the OP is being too specific. ISTM that 4e battles are going to be more like the fights you see on movies and TV generally, rather than anime specifically.
