[D20 Apocalypse] How does your Mutant grow?

Has anyone started a d20 Apocalypse game with mutations? If so how did you allow you players to pick them. Was it total player choice or random rolling? Did you have a limit on the total point value of the mutations gained?

I am starting a Gamma Worldesque PBP game and wanted some feed back. Thanks.

I like the 8/6 random myself. I might even go with 8/5 random. Back in the day! *Sorry my old man gene is starting to activate* We loved the effect of random mutations from Gamma World. And it's a mutation for gosh stake! You don't get to pick them out from the show room floor with a money back guarantee.

Anyway, here is my Mutant Template, which is Darwin's World modified for the d20 mutation system.

... because you random mutation may not capitalize on a combo they had in mind?

On a less cynical note, a lot of players have a need for control. I can't tell you how many player I know waste the entire evening on a new game becuase they would rather create a PC from scratch for a game system they don't know than use a pregen to learn the system in the first place because they want "what they want" as a PC.

On the other hand, I've had very few people want to use a point buy system for attributes. They plead for a ton of rerolls and I've seen GMs do things like "use 4d6, roll seven times, drop the lowest die and the worst stat." With all that in mind, why not use point buy.
 

Fuzzy memory kicking in. I think I do remember alot of mutant characters hitting the trash can because we didn't like the results of our rolls! :p
