They've compiled quite a bit of material on BSG already and are making regular updates. The last rules update stats out the stealth fighter that was designed and built in Friday's episode. Because BSG is such a minimalist scifi setting, I'm convinced that it can be easily played using the rules in D20 Modern and D20 Future.

Most of the vipers they use *ARE* the original colonial vipers, since the electronics on the new Vipers is easy for the Cyclons to hijack. That has changed in later eps, but they still have a few of the old ones in use. The new ones are more maneuverable and have more firepower (with a higher rate of fire).

The new-series vipers look almost identical to the original Vipers. They established in the miniseries the history of this version of BSG: instead of the Cylons performing a sneak attack at the end of a 1000 year (pardon, Yahren) war, they staged a similar sneak attack after 40 years of peace where no human had ever seen a cylon.

The new prototype "blackbird" stealth Viper that was built in the most recent episode only loosely resembled a classic Viper, it was black, angular, and lacked the vertical fin/engine.

The Galactica was being decommissioned, an old (and obsolete) battlestar, it was being turned into a museum ship, with displays of old Cylon and Colonial hardware (which look identical to original series hardware). Old Cylon spacecraft were the raiders of the original series (while new BSG raiders look only very vaguely like the original ones).

The Cylons collectively are referred to as "toasters", since before the war the last time anybody saw Cylons they looked like "walking toasters" as a reference to the chrome centurions of the original series. Cylons consider this to be a racial epithet.
