Things to keep in mind for an 80s campaign:

New wave, rap and hair bands became very popular.

And rap was not gangster related at the time.

*sigh*

I'm glad I still have copies of good rap from the time.
Beastie Boys, Ton-Loc, Run DMC, and yes... even M.C. Hammer... But not a note of Vanilla Ice.

OMG, thin ties...I forgot all about that.

I also didn't mention the box office trends:

Slasher movies. (Jason, Freddy, Michael Myers)
Teen sex comedies. (Brat pack, Phoebe Cates)
Anti-commie or militaristic action films. (Rambo, Iron Eagle, Top Gun, Delta Force)
Martial arts films. (Karate Kid, tons of imports)
Comedies starring funny SNL stars. (Chase, Murphy, etc.)

Seedy urban thugs all wore mohawks. In the future, everyone will.

The Japanese were going to own everything.

A 15-year old and a computer can shut down your electricity, ruin your credit, and launch a nuclear missile.

People awaited new Star Wars films with excited anticipation.

Ah, them were the days. Amazing how Siskel and Ebert gave Return of the Jedi thumbs down. Of course, they gave Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves thumbs down on their show, but thumbs up in the paper. *shakes head*

Everybody wanted to know who shot JR.

Best cliffhanger ever!

The Challenger disaster was what we considered a horrible tragedy (pre-9/11).

I still consider it a horrible tragedy, though the scale has definitely changed.

Cable TV, VCRs and CDs were the epitome of entertainment technology. CNN and MTV were started.

And MTV had VJ's and played music. No, really! :D

Pastel t-shirts, legwarmers, and sweaters around the waist were common, as were severe-looking women's suits with massive shoulder pads.

Pants were tight in those days. They didn't look like they would fall off someone's backside or like someone had an accident. In reality, it was the 80's solution to birth control. By the time you got those pants off, you were too tired to do anything! ;)

I miss the 80's...
