d20 Feats and OGL / Copyright

The general concept of "Feats" is in no way shape or form. Property of Wizards of the Coast.

GURPS has had "Feats" for along time now.

You could make a book of generic "Feats" and give them no game mechanics and it wouldn't be OGC or d20.
I'm a little confused by what you are trying to say here. I don't think anyone was saying that Feats, in and of themselves, are IP of WotC. However, under the d20 aegis, the only feats that WotC has opened up are those in the SRD and MSRD.

Hmmmm, I am not sure he was actually trying to say anything, just taking a mildly antagonistic stance. The fact that GURPS doesn't even call them feats makes his position just a bit silly.

The Auld Grump, who will admit to not liking GURPS much...

First off, concepts and ideas can never be copyrighted.

But I do have one question. Are the "feats" in GURP written in the same stat block format as the feats in D&D and d20 SRD?

What are called 'Feats' in D20 are called an 'Advantages' in GURPS.

'Feats' in GURPS are things being attempted. Running is a feat, jumping, lifting and swimming are all 'Feats' in GURPS. So is deciphering a code. For some walking and chewing gum at the same time is a feat. Any time you roll in GURPS it is a 'Feat'. A GM assigns a modifier to the dice,The player rolls; adds appropraiately and compares the result to his characteristics. In D20 this is called a 'test' or a 'check' in other systems it is called a 'task'. It is in no way, shape, or form the same thing.

Saduff, wy are you deliberately trying to confuse the issue? Someone has asked for help and you reply with a non-sequitor.

The Auld Grump, just because I don't like GURPS doesn't mean that I am unfamiliar with the game....

My understanding (and I'm sure others can refine this) is that for prodducing a list, such as the thread originator proposed, he may list the names of any feat in the SRD or which the individual source has designated open content.

That rules out listing any feat
A) Whose title is identified as Product Identity (look for proper names in the title such as "Jeramiah's Savage Beating" as opposed to just "Savage Beating") and
B) Any feat published in a WotC Product (including Dragon Magazine) that is not included in the SRD.

With one coda...if you ask and get permission, you can use said feats. You just then need to also list the special agreement/license in which you are using these feats. It never hurts to ask, the worst they can say is "no".
