d20 Future preview is up!

Since I usually play Point Buy, I might alter the Construct ability score adjustments by simply saying "You start out with 5 fewer points than organic characters, and you have a Charisma modifier of -4." The -5 is to make up for you not having to put points in Con, and the -4 is still hefty, but can be overcome, so that somebody who really really wanted to make a Cha10 "Diplomatic Servitor"-bot or something could do so without trouble.

Woo hoo! Read this first thing this morning and I'm totally stoked about it! d20 Future looks fantastic! And I finally got the new Dungeon/Polyhedron with the Future Starships - very nice! What a great RPG day!

I will play d20 Future as much as possible! And I'm totally excited to cannibalize the SRD and get started on my own Space Project! Whoot!

I guess that since it it using Modern core rule that means there won't be a Vitality/Wound point kind of system. I would have loved such a system, in fact I think futurist settings require such system.

There is no reason you can't import Wound/Vitality into d20M/d20F, they even discuss how to use Wound/Vitality in d20M here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20modern/bp/20030403a in one of the first columns written for d20 Modern. The only reason they didn't use it apparently was ease of conversion for D&D players.

I am also greatly looking forward to d20 Future, it's the first product from WotC in at least 6 months that I'm genuinely looking forward to.

Do you think D20 futur was insert on a new version of MSRD or why not on a FSDR (Futur Source Reference Document) ?
Andy Smith have stated that adding material from d20 Future will be the next SRD* update this August/September.

* He often refers both 3.5e SRD and MSRD as "SRD."

As I'm not familiar with Alternity, what is wrong with the MM fraal? Besides, I don't think they'll change the greys for d20 Future.

The Alternity fraal/grey were balanced in that setting, but after trying to directly convert their stats to D20 Modern (there's a method, of course) they came out to be too ... unbalanced. Not necessarily overpowered or underpowered, but rather all over the place.

Their poor physical stats made it way too easy for them to die (Con -4 tends to do that) while their high mental stats started to overpower them as soon as they reached 4th-level (when you can start using more psionic powers).

The Menace Manual fraal didn't have such bad stats but they're still not balanced - how do you expect to throw around +4 bonuses to all mental stats and keep the level adjustment at +0?

Plus, I didn't like making them Small.

I don't think you'll have to worry as earlier in the article Powered Armor is mentioned in the description for Chapter 3: Equipment NOT Chapter 9: Mecha.

Well, that's a relief. :)

Does anyone know if d20 Modern is required?
Yes, it is.

I now believe that the 5 starting Cha is a typo, and that they meant it to be a 15. I thought about that in reading their suggestion that instead of rolling 4d6 for determiing stats, a Biodroid player can allow 14, 13, 12, and 10 as he sees fit. As such, I think that having a 15 in Cha is more logical than a 5. If they really wanted a low Cha they would have gone for a 8 IMO.

I am very happy to see the Dralasites back in print. I loved that race from SF. :)
me too! they were my favorite Star Frontiers race. i even converted them for use in a previous Star Wars d20 campaign... :)

we've got confirmation from the preview for Dralasites, Vrusk, and Yazirians... can i hope that maybe we'll see the Sathar at some point too?
