D20 Future & Spelljammer?

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
Okay, looking over a few things about Urban Arcana, I can see that minor helms can be created with a fifth level spell. Urban Arcana spells top out at 5th level. So, would this be at all up anyone's alley? There are already two fansites for updating Spelljammer to DnD 3.5, why not use the info there and D20 Future-fy it?

While I'm looking at doing a similar thing... I think you've made a slight mistake.

"Helm" in UA is referring to a helmet. "Helm" in Spelljammer is the thing that steers a ship. Completely different.

There's more than two fansites also, unless quite a few closed last I checked.

That said, it's certainly possible. The first thing to decide is, for Urban Arcana, to decide it space is like our space, or wildspace (in Shadow Chasers, it'd definately be like our space). If you decide space is like space in the real world, then helms on ships would probably need to be modified; they'd have to create the air envelope, since that doesn't happen naturally to everything in space. Likewise, they'd have to create enough heat, and pressure.

Beyond that, and the lack of crystal spheres (again, depending on how you design the cosmology), things are pretty much the same.

My suggestion: spelljamming ships bring you into another dimension, not the normal space. This is more like "Astral", and there other planets (like Venus, Mars, etc.) are populated with many lifeforms and magic. Maybe elves come from Mars and Dwarves from Venus, or what not. In any case, this is definitely not the normal realm of space, but an overlapping one in the "shadow dimension".

I'm not quite sure how I want to handle spelljamming in such a reality. However, interesting points have been made here. I like the idea of the shadow realm, though creatures fantastic come from beyond the shadow I don't see why they couldn't work with NASA or some other "Top Secret" organization to try to make spelljamming as efficient as possible. Another thought too, is using bits and pieces from Dragonstar.

Though Dragonstar is a bit different from standard fantasy, it does portray a bit of what I am looking for. The equipment, perfect. The magic, workable. The races, easily adaptable. FTL becomes a real possibility as opposed to spelljamming, though I do not see why the two couldn't work together. I suppose as well, that a 'Shadowjumper Drive' could allow the ship to move between realities. That, in my opinion is a perfect solution to the shadow realm and how to design the multiverse to fit with what I am looking to accomplish.

Of course, with using the info from Dragonstar a new realm of shadow could possibly be pierced. A program similar to Stargate could be formed to protect Earth from the threat of the Dragon empire.

Good thing I own the core Stargate book. This is going to be fun to develop.

Unfortunately, my Dragonstar books were lost in the mail when I moved months ago. And I went to buy the DS set from Amazon the other day, decided to wait, changed my mind... and it was already sold out. x.x

So, since I want to pull some rules from that, it may be a while before I work on my version again.
