d20 Future Tech
Rodney Thompson and JD Wiker
New gear and technology for any d20 Modern or d20 Future campaign.
d20 Future Tech is an extensive collection of high-tech items for use by players and Gamemasters. Building on subsystems first presented in d20 Future, d20 Future Tech presents new gear and options for characters, vehicles, starships, and mecha. Covering technology levels from the current era to the far future, this supplement can be used in any style of modern of future campaign.

That sounds interesting, at least in theory. Though it's not perfect, I like d20 Future, and it will be cool to see all this support material in one place. It looks like it will complement Rodney's Future Player's Companion series for Game Mechanics, which is another plus.

Alas, it's true appeal, at least to me, will depend on whether it joins the MSRD or not. Same reason I have not bought d20 Apocalypse (and d20 Cybertech will probably follow suit as well). Past was ok, but just ok, especially because it wasn't added to the MSRD (though I wonder if that's because there seemed--at least to me--to be a general lack of interest in the product).

I am inclined to think the same, and that, I think, is unfortunate. In fact, I get the distinct feeling that the Modern OGC gravy train has come to a complete stop.

In the beginning I got the impression that WotC wanted Modern to be the line where they would really take advantage of the synergy the OGL offers between them and 3rd-party Publishers, and for a while it was like that, but that seems to have ended with Future. I know it makes little difference to most people, but to me, as a gamer AND publisher, it makes a world of difference in my buying habits.

Maybe if we all ask Andy nicely? :)

All I want for them is to expand the rules that was first presented in d20 Future, especially the starships, which is my main focus right now.

I may be very wrong but I suspect that D20 Future Tech will concentrate on more gear, more mecha devices, more starship weapons and equipment, more robot devices, and maybe bringing the VRNet to print (unless that's in Cyberscape which is also very likely). I can't see much space in a 96-page book being spent on a significant expansion to any one section of D20 Future.

But maybe we'll get lucky and I'll be wrong. Or maybe we'll get very lucky and an entire book devoted to starships will be announced.

While obviously the book is about a whole lot of new gear (as the product description makes obvious), it definitely also includes new mechanics and spin-off mechanics from d20 Future. Obviously I can't say any more about it at the moment, but there will be some new mechanics in there.

I don't think there's a chance in hell of this happening.
Didn't d20 Weapons Locker have the OGL just printed in the book? Maybe they'll do that again.

I don't know why people expect Wizards to just put everything in OGL. They don't do this for Dungeons & Dragons why do you think they would ever do this for D20 Modern? The whole "its not in SRD so I won't buy it" is bull. You people probably don't even buy it anyways and that is why you are upset its not in the SRD, you don't get it for free.

Well, I for one always have had the rather vain notion that one day I'll put up my campaign on a website. And in order to be legal, I would only be about to use open content.

Anyway, until there is a decent starship book for d20 Future, with real rules for starships (heck, even the fully converted rules from Alternity would be okay), I don't think I'll be buying anything for it.
