D20 Future to be realeased in 2004

Sound great, and I wish they'd aim for a more reasonable publishing time (like tomarrow ;)), I have this sinking feeling that it's not going to be Open Content...

From what I gather, the Future stuff will be fairly modularized so that if you just want cyborgs, you drop the cyborg 'component' into your game.

Poly gave the previous Mecha d20 mini game as an example.

Yeah, but it'd be silly. D20 Modern is already flexible enough and well designed to be d20 Future with nothing more than a setting book.

Flexible enough, perhaps. But does it have the SUPPORT for it? No, it does not. d20 modern has spells and (D&D style) psionics, but nary a thing of spaceships, cyberwear, futuristic firearms, and so forth.

That said, if you can't wait, buy T20. (Buy T20 anyways, its a good book!)

I'm just hoping they include all the material from the Mecha Crusade minigame in Polyhedron. They'd be silly not to buy the rights to such good work. I'd be willing to bet you that they won't, and will go with their own material that is a) less detailed than Mecha Crusade and b) less true to the concept.

I am stoked about the d20 Future idea. Just what I was hoping would happen, and hey, it doesn't require a new set of core rules. I also hope they expand the SRD.

Doesn't WotC already own any and all rights to Mecha Crusade? I mean, they developed it.

Keep in mind GOO and DP9 are producing d20 Mecha supplements in the coming year.

Is it just me or is this a ridiculous time frame for release? A year? It doesn't take that long to write your senior thesis in college, and that is only written by one person! This seems to be a bit long of a wait (or a bit early of a release for info). This sneak peak release stuff from WotC is just a bit too much for me lately. I am going to go play M&M.

My senior project took me two semesters: one to figure out what the hell to write, and one to write.

My senior project sucked.

If WotC wants to spend a year working on a kick-a$$ sci-fi expansion for d20M, it's fine by me.

Certainly better than announcing a deadline they can't meet and then constantly pushing back the date. Who knows? Maybe they'll pull a "Scotty" and have it ready ahead of schedule. That'd be a first.

IIRC, WOTC has a two or three year time frame on their projects. First, the book has to stew around for a little while for inspiration. Then, the material has to be written. Following that, there's editing, layout and art, followed by the physical printing.
