D20 Future to be realeased in 2004

Is it just me or is this a ridiculous time frame for release? A year? It doesn't take that long to write your senior thesis in college, and that is only written by one person! This seems to be a bit long of a wait (or a bit early of a release for info). This sneak peak release stuff from WotC is just a bit too much for me lately. I am going to go play M&M.
Dungeons & Dragons Third Edition took over a year, but you have to be real, it is plagued with ambiguities and errors.

Besides, your senior thesis does not undergo rules playtesting. :p

It dosent even take a year for some movies to be cast/filmed/edited and then released. This is just a tease that is all that I am saying. It is like when Sony released info about the PS2 when Dreamcast was released. It spelled instant doom for the Dreamcast. All WotC is trying to do is stop sales for other games of this fashion and then horde them all when they release it, even if it is a sub-par product. With t20 and Blood & Space released now (Heck even Darwins world would probably have a bunch of stuff in it considered "future") WotC is pretty much saying:

"Calm down let us pet your head. THere you go, now like a good sheep wait for our product and I promise it will be pretty."

Who know's I am probably wrong... but I might be right. I just think that they JUST gave this project the green light and for the above reasons is giving a press release on it.

I cant tell you the ammount of people that I told I had a Dreamcast ant they kind of went:

"Pffft a Dreamcast! I am waiting for a PS2."
ME: "That dosent come out for over a year!"
"Yea but it is a playstaion"
:(

But for all we know Sony have been developing PS2 in secret, and finally made the announcement when the project seems to be moving into the later stage of development toward a final product. ;)

Seriously, I don't like putting a deadline whether it is a year or two. I'm not a big fan of what you call a "rushed job" product, where the designers think it is better to get the product out before the deadline that they boastfully announce and fix the product later.

Now this may not be intentional, but I've seen products that should have undergone extensive editing and rewrites.

They have other things in the works they have to finish first, but they know they'll get to it eventually.
At least that's the reason I would give for announcing it so far ahead of the prospective release.

Sounds interesting, but I bet that by next yers there is already a lot of d20 sci-fi products out there based on d20 Modern. We will see is WotC's one is better than the others :)

Hmm...

For any other RPG company, this kind of lead time on the anouncement would be fatally stupid. Even for WotC it looks kinda strange, since they provided a laundry list that an number of other developers could convert into damm fine products. And given that the base is already in place (d20Modern) develop it in 4-6 months, not over a year (less if you consider than the idea of adding these components to d20 Modern must have been rolling around in somebody's head even before this announcement).

Honestly, I think either WotC just had a marketing fit (unlikely), or they recognize that there is a market there, and are staking a claim. Lord knows many groups shied away from doing their own take on modern era games after d20Modern was merely anounced. I think this will mostly serve to scare developers away from this type of product :(, for fear that fans will ignore it in favor of waiting to see what WotC has to offer.

Um.. it doesn't have to be better to sell greater numbers.

My sentiments exactly! Just what I was trying to get at with my Playstation 2 synonym.

See I'm not the only crazy person that can see a marketing technique from a mile a way ("nener nener nener!" ;))
