d20 Gatchaman

Spycraft minions can't do criticals, so the vitality is just as good as HP vs. mooks. It's only when a henchman (like one of Galactor's countless big robot commanders) shows up that the real danger begins.
Ok, that makes sense. I guess I'm still suffering from CoC d20 thinking. On the other hand, I like having one fewer mechanic to explain to players. I don't think I can sell too many players in my 5 player/1 dm group on another core book! It's strange, they'll happily buy splat book after splat book for D&D, but anything else... On the other hand, I'll see how people feel after I've posted all the character write-ups on the group web-site and see if people get excited about it enough. If they do, I'll do a full 1st season treatment (about 10 4 hour sessions --- a spot light on each of the characters, the secret behind who the leader of the red impulse is, and Joe's death --- though if some other character dies, I'll use that instead :).

I won't do as nice a treatment for the villains though. That's strictly GM material. :)

For chases (a spy movie staple) the SEH is complete. That includes car, aircraft, boat, and foot chasses, about 75 types of vehicles, and a spread of vehicle gadgets.
Yeah, but we're talking about Gatchaman! They don't "chase". They shoot. Anyone who's seen Joe's trigger finger over the bird missile button knows.

Sol /Whl should be out just about now :D. We had copies for sale at GenCon. It's a solid book, 100% ALL crunchy rules except for the table of contents, the introduction page and the OGL liscence page.
Ok, I'll look for it on buy.com. (Which has Spycraft for $22)

The OAVs basically remake three pivital episodes of the first season. You can probably show the players this, if they don't imediately want to go after Galactor's secret base just 'cause they saw where it is in the OAVs. [/B]
I just ordered a copy off Half.com ($10!). Does it reveal that Red Impulse is Ken's father? That blows away a surprise...

(Joe's feat missmatch)
Ah. Cool. You can put that feat I posted on the sheet as long as it keeps the by-line. OGL and all :).

Great. I'll do it on the next go around. I'm probably going to take out all the team-specific details and put them on one sheet, so that the character sheet is smaller and will fit on two sides of one page.

I think the Whirlwind pyramid needs a variable DC for missing team members. (They've actually successfully done it with 4, but at great cost---Ken broke an arm after that---this was in Episode 1 of series 2)
That's actually rather cool :D.
Yeah. I love props. Especially done right. What I love about running a series off a TV show is that I can get stills, pictures of NPCs, etc, and show them to the players. It's awesome.

As for Jun as a wheelman, that stunt launching off the waterfall on the cosmo-bike in the opening credits looks promising :).
Ok, I'll see the OAV. Maybe I can show just the opening credits to the players. :) Well, I'm done with the write ups for now. I'll work on my cool Hero point rules next. Would AEG be willing to buy that off me in exchange for some Spycraft books? :)

The swallow!

More cool stuff. Like the class mix. Very much like the size: small.

Some suggestions: give him Mathematical genius instead of Skill Emphasis: Computers (...there isn't actually a Skill Emphasis feat in Spycraft~ it was deemed too weak :p). It'll cost him 1 point compared to Skill Emphasis, but boosts another important skill and give him more threat range. This will also get him on track if he wants to become a Hacker later on. Could replace Skill Emphasis: Bluff with Quick Use (bluff). Very nasty for characters with sneak attack.

One other special bit with Jinpei: he's the only member of the team who seems to have figured out how to uses the mass displacement technology in the suits to GAIN mass. He does some death from above attacks where he makes himself super heavy and smashes into targets. Might give him about a +2d6 damage if he makes a charge.

Here's the feats I mentioned~

From The Spycraft Espionage Handbook
by AEG @2001

Mathematical Genius
You have an innate understanding of mathematics that greatly aids your understanding of computers and cryptography.
Prerequisites: Computers skill 1+, Cryptography skill 1+.
Benefit: +2 bonus to all Computers and Cryptography checks. In addition, your threat range with these skills increases to 19-20.

Quick Use
You are very quick and efficient with a particular skill.
Prerequisites: Chosen skill 1+.
Benefit: Choose one of your skills. If that skill normally takes more than 1 round to use (up to one minute), each action with it now takes half the standard time. If that skill normally takes a full action to use, it now takes you only a half action to use. If that skill normally takes a half action to use, it is now a free action for you. You may use only one skill as a free action per round by virtue of this feat.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Each time you take the feat, the effects apply to a new skill.

Stealthy
You rarely leave a strong impression.
Prerequisites: Hide skill 1+, Move Silently skill 1+.
Benefit: +2 to all Hide and Move Silently skill checks. In addition, your threat range with these skills increases to 19-20.

Sounds reasonable.

I believe in the first season they did it with as few as two (Ken and Jun?). But never alone. I always speculated it involved creating a interference pattern between two or more of their gravity/mass manipulators. In the raptor clas I dealt with it as an area of effect weapon (with damage tappering off over distance.

Looking good so far :).

The second OAV does give away the whole dad thing. The OAVs don't have opening credits- they go straight to the prologue.

I mean the opening credits of the old 'Battle of the Planets' episodes. She's zipping along on a river and the goes sailing off the precipice at which point the cape snaps open. Hard on the bike, but a decisive finish to a water chase :).

If the hero point rules are compatible with the Action Dice rules and expand on the options there in a cool way, we might be interested in giving you credit in a book and making them official 8).

Any more word on this poject? The character's looked cool, and the third comic just came out :D.
I was on vacation for the last 2 weeks. When all my players get back I'll poll them to see if there's any interest. If there is, I'll develop the concept further. Otherwise, there's this project that Chaosium is talking to me about, and as you well know, a project that pays is higher priority than a project that doesn't. :)
