D20 Klingons?

I heard of Prime Directive d20 but didn't know it was out.

What's it like? A fair take on d20? Or is it overly plagued by over specific classes the way too many d20 products by companies whose specialty isn't d20 tend to be?

Yeah, but how many of you new-school roleplayers would be willing to play a Not-Exactly Star Trek game?

I don't know if I qualify as a new school roleplayer, but AFAIAC, they progressively screwed up the franchise worse with each successive series, so a TOS based game has a certain appeal to me.

I think my problem with Prime Directive would be that this is not simply TOS Trek --- it is a strange evolutionary offshoot of TOS, raised somewhere among the Galapagos Islands, where it has cross-bred with fanfic, old-school wargames, aliens from some other IP license, and various strains of non-canon continuity.

And these Klingons, for instance, are just going to be swarthy guys with rosy cheeks and a vaguely Soviet vibe. Not only will there be no Worf...there will be nothing of the culture and backstory we've seen developed since TOS. In its place...fanfic and extrapolation.

[Which may be brilliant, for all I know, but that sort of thing usually isn't.]

I heard it was based on the Star Fleet Battles wargaming universe. I know there's a GURPS version of the game. I believe the Klingons are all the non-ridged versions from TOS. There are also some of the races from the Animated series.

If I wanted to run a Star Trek campaign and those games have good ame mechanics, frankly I don't care that the names Star Trek, Kirk, spock, etc. are mentioned or not.
As a d20 gamer, I'd probably be more interested in what new game mechanics they used and tinker with the rest of OGC to make my kind of a Trek game.

As a gamer I'd just enjoy playing a fun sci fi game with other gamers regardles of the genre or canon.
