d20 license & SRD update coming

Thanks again. We'll see but I have a feeling that clarification will be handled by others outside the company. Direct questions in public forums of a legal nature are generally not publicly fielded. It's nonetheless important to ask the questions, IMO. We'll have to see what happens to the actual SRD in the next few days to determine whether he mispoke, of if some action was taken that goes against what I understand is the nature of SRD.

Clarification aside, i somehow doubt they'll admit to targetting a specific product or company with a change.

I've never said that they did. Where do you get that?

The SRD comment by Charles refers to the fact that Andy Smith has been working on material to ADD to the SRDs (the advanced classes from the campaigns chapter of d20 Modern that have until now been closed content, for example).

Poor WotC - they give even more of their goodies away, open up even more content, and still gamers can only see the negative.

Green Ronin had already been asked to change the name of their Medieval Player's Handbook, and already announced a name change to Medieval Player's Manual.

I believe WOTC just wanted to issue a blanket "dont go there" rather than having to tell all of us individually :)

They need to be more clear in their statements/announcements if they want to avoid questions like mine. And I am not being negative as a gamer, I am asking questions regarding an unclear announcemment as a publisher. Once they make the actual release/changes, it is highly unlikely they will pull back from a public position. It weakens their standing should a lawsuit ever arise. If they see some red flags prior to a change/release (even if it is only on the eve of such) they have the chance to delay it while they make adjustments should they recognize that they have erred.

You're absolutely right, Mark. In the context of just that one message from Charles, it isn't clear, but in makes sense in the context of all the recent threads on that board. Charles comment was in response to requests for info on the next SRD update in other posts on that particular WotC board. I'm sure WotC will be making an official announcement when the updates come though.
