D20 Lite?

I’ve been looking around for a while, and have been unable to find something that fits my needs. So before I spend a week distilling it, is there already a neo-Basic “Lite” version of D20 out there? I’d like to lose more complex rules, including the use of miniatures and wargame-related Feats and class abilities, but keep the core mechanic, classes, races, and feats in a simplified Fast, Loose, and Bright form. Has someone done the work for me, or should I start writing?

Print out the SRD and start editing things out. Once you have reduced the rules to about half you can begin play. Patch up as necessary.

I was looking for a similar product about a year ago, and found nothing. The product Sado mentions is definitely worth looking at, but IIRC it is intended primarily for players (not DMs) unfamiliar with 3.x D&D, and so might not be what you're looking for. But I could be wrong. ;)

My interests may be somewhat different than yours. I wanted a "rules lite" version of D&D -- but, unlike say the Rules Companion (which I love), I wanted a system with which 3.x players would be comfortable. In that light, "Castles and Crusades" might be considered a "rules lite" version of 3.x D&D (if that is what you mean by d20). The combat system is much faster than 3.x and definitely does not require minis. It doesn't have feats, though many playtesters have added them without problem.

I'm pretty psyched about the system -- after two campaigns of 3.x, the rules-heaviness of that version has made me weary. C&C reminds me of the fast paced games I used to love -- but without the annoying rules (class level limits, different mechanics for different tasks, etc.).

Amazing how the same topics occur in cycles.

Also check into Blue Rose from Green Ronin. Its target is "Romantic Fantasy" in the vein of Mercedes Lackey, or Diane Duane, but it's got some interesting ideas about reducing some elements in traditional d20 D&D and heightening social interaction that some people find intriguing. It's not out yet, but it's something to keep your eyes peeled for when it's released and reviewed.

I've been tempted to check out C&C. This gives me another reason. And I hadn't heard of OGL Lite... Thanks, I'll obtain both of these for perusal. :)

I can't say enough about how much more enjoyable my sessions are as a DM now that I've switched to C&C. You should be able to snag the C&C PHB within the next 3-4 weeks. Sounds like it is just what you're looking for.
