d20 Mass Combat! Thanks Skip and Monte!!

Ditto the "thanks" above.

This one goes straight to my "auto-buy" list.

Malhavoc continues to build it's stable of uber-talent and uber-content.

Congrats!

Umm, because they don't work there anymore?

So what if they don't work there anymore? What does that have to do with anything I wrote in my first post? (And thanks for the "Umm"... nothing like seeing a post that treats me like an invalid)

I don't think anyone would want to create a product in direct competition with whatever major product WotC is putting out this summer. While competition may be a good thing in the d20 arena, any d20 company risks their product getting completely ignored by competing with WotC. If you seriously think that Malhavok would put out a competing product simply to spite WotC because Monte and Skip don't work there anymore, you do them a great disservice.

I too expect big things from Skip.

Since the subject has been coming up alot, I've just put my head into it for a second to see if I could write something quick and dirty, and I got to tell you I don't envy anyone who tackles this. Turning D&D into a working mass combat system in a way that is going to please the fans of hit points and feats is going to be rough.

I can't think of anyone better than Skip for the job. Though, here's hoping its better than the kludgy goblin archery mechanics in 'The Axe of the Dwarven Lords' (the only bad thing in what was otherwise an awesome module, and my favorite mega-module of all time).

I think he's more referring to the fact that as ex-employees of WotC, it is unlikely they are in-the-loop as far as future releases go.

Even Skip (who, as you know, was an employee until very recently) is under an NDA and can't legally tell Monte what WotC has in the works.

Now, I may be wrong on this, but I haven't heard of any WotC announced releases containing any mass-combat rules. Has there been an announcement?

Just an FYI: There are mass combat Rules in Slaine.

how do they deal with the improved invized, flying wizard with a wand of fireballs on the battlefield? :)

joe b.

ps. lemee guess.. less magic in slaine then in DnD :) or just sheer denial :D

i really dont envy anyone that tries to make a mass combat system for DnD.. it would be a nightmare.. but i wish them the best of luck!

(edit: apparantly denile was a place in egypt... *sigh*)

It is a lower magical world, however, they do have rules for dealing with a single opponet against a group. That's how PCs fit into mass combat and how witches and Druids should be treated.
