d20 Modern: ? about Monster layout (Book vs. SRD)

But for a game advertised as modern, much of the book is usless because of the fantasy elements.

Much of the book may be useless TO YOU, but that does not mean that it is useless to everyone else.

I am glad that they put the book together in such a way that it is useful to a WIDE variety of people in a WIDE variety of settings.

If those pages are really so offensive to you, just grab a razor blade and cut them out of your book. Take those pages to a shredder or open flame and they'll never bother you again.

Wow, that was really off based and totally inaccurate. The book says d20 modern, so is it really too much of a strecth to expect it to be modern? THis has nothing to do with personal tastes. In fact, if one reads some of my other d20 modern posts one might realize I'm going to run a d20 modern fantasy game.

Where did you get the idea I was offended by what's in a gaming book? That's the most ludicrous thing I've read in a while, and I thank you for the good laugh. I suggest you not read so much into people's post. Occasionally people do post to encourage discussion and not flames. Please try this. :)

Let me ask you this way, Crothian, and I welcome your honesty:

Can you play d20 Modern without the supernatural FX elements?

Personally, there are two selling points to this product. One is a set of rules that allows for modern-era roleplaying, and the other is the FX plugins, to make modern-era roleplaying a little quirky and exciting. While they both go together seamlessly (correct me if I'm wrong) you take remove the FX and play it as is. It may not be exciting but that's up to the GM to make the gaming session enjoyable.

What I quoted was completely accurate. You do not call something that you like or enjoy useless.

Your statement that the monster section was too large and mostly useless is pretty telling. You are obviously less than impressed with, at least, that section of the book.

You then went on in a later post to say that much of the book is useless because of its fantasy elements. This does not look like a glowing review to me.

Perhaps you overstated or exagerated your feelings? If you did, then my use of the word "offended" may have been too strong, but I think it was justified considering the tone of your messages.

My own suggestion that you take a razor blade to your books was an attempt at sarcasm, which you either didn't catch or chose to ignore. If it was the former, I apologize. If it was the latter, then this is simply a waste of time.

Of course one can. I think it would be really easy to do.

Edit: But my main point is that d20 modern from what I've seen is maining advertised as a modern game, not a modern fantasy. Granted once one looks through the book one should realize the fantasy elements are there.

Not completely true. I have a cat I love to death, but he's pretty useless. He just sits around and sleeps most of the day. :D

I was being overly credical to promote conversation. I do find some of the creatures in there less then orginal and it doesn't seem like WotC just borrowed ideas from other people.

That's why people use smiley's, because it's impossible to know how that comment was meant. All I have to go by is the words and very little context. Smileys are our friends. :)
