The Occultist somehow work differently than your average yet banned from D*M (except as NPCs) Mage advanced class. But I don't believe the Occultist is too flashy for an advanced class, nor is it overly competent.

Understood. The spell-scroll thing just didn't sit well with me, D*M-wise.

Seems like more than a few people are going with The Psychic's Handbook for d20M psi. I may have to check it out.

The reason I am disallowing the Occultist advanced class, even though it was recommended in the Polyhedron D*M article, has to do more with the abilities tied to creatures of Shadow, which gives it a distinctive Shadow Chasers/Urban Arcana flavor.

The Psychic's Handbook is great - I'd love to see Steve Kenison do a book on feat and skill-based spellcasting some time.

Creatures of Shadow are any unnatural creatures that shouldn't dwell in the modern world. Such a rare thing that even pop up in the X-Files show (which is not always about an alien conspiracy).

If you want, remove those class features, or use Occultist for NPC option.

D*M Sale

I just got an email from SVGames, and the Dark*Matter campaign setting is half off. You can also download it along with other alternity lines if anyone doesn't already have them. I spent about $8 on the ESD for D*M and an FX handbook from Alternity. They have about 85 WOTC games for 1/2 price.
