That's not what I'd really call it. But I just saw "Blade II" and was thinking about how much I enjoy action-oriented games. And then I read a Destroyer novel...
I've been threatening my friends with some modern-day pulp ideas. And I figure, why start from scratch, or recycle old Doc Savage plots? Why not use that beautiful Dark Matter book that never got played, but think John Woo instead of Chris Carter?
I figure, start the PCs high enough in level so they can all be competent investigators or scientists BUT have enough levels left over to take a few levels of Martial Artist (to represent their training in an obscure but lethal Tibetan school of kung fu).
If there are rumors of alien abductions, they go check it out, interview the abductees, the usual...but by the end of the adventure, they are going Iron Monkey on the Grey mothership.
When I do the Loch Ness Monster adventure...damn it, someone is going to ride that thing.
As a big Buckaroo Banzai fan, I love the idea of a theoretical physicist and a xenobiologist carrying 12-gauge shotguns and dealing harshly with otherdimensional invaders.
Anyway...food for thought...
