D20 Modern Minatures!?!

As far as D20 Modern "miniatures" go, I've found that O-Gauge model railroad figures are just about right for minatures use.

They are a big bigger than a proper miniature, but they work in a pinch. Just glue them to a square miniature base and you are ready to go. The biggest drawback is that most model railroad figures are geared towards the 20s through the 50s and thus would works best for "pulp era" games. They also don't really come in action poses, so something like a gun-toting cigar-chewing mercenary would be a hard find. But, for just having something modern-looking to represent your character, O-Gauge figures are better than nothing.

For modern gaming, I've found that the Heroclix minis can serve well. There are a lot of generic characters, and many superheroes and supervillains look mundane enough to be regular PC's and NPC's.

You can often get bulk lots of them on eBay, and some FLGS sell them in bulk (and every year at Gen Con there are a few places selling them at .25 each or the like). It's not too hard to get a nice assortment of Police & SWAT members, Soldiers, Criminals, Vigilanties, Scientists and Businessmen.

I pop them off their little click bases with a knife and superglue them onto a square minis base, and they're ready to go.

One thing I specifically don't want in d20 Modern minis is more of the "D&D in the Modern Day" stuff, I don't want Gnoll Pimps, Kobold Commandos or Illithid Businessmen. When I run d20 Modern, it's typically much more mundane, with weirdness around the edges (and I can grab another mini if I need a Guest Monster).

As for Mecha Minis, Wizkids did that too, the whole Mechwarrior line.

Two sorts of minis that I think would be almost like printing money would be GI Joes and Star Wars starfighters.

GI Joe is maybe not as popular as it used to be, but how cool would a GI Joe mini game be? If I were a kid, I'd be in heaven. (Okay, I was a weird kid)

Same with the SW starfighters.
