D20 Modern: Nonlethal Damage

Thanks!

Wow!

Thanks for this thread!

mythusmage: Great story. Thanks! It was very uplifting to hear one person helping another and no violence during this confrontation. Too bad these stories don't get on the news. It is also uplifiting to hear someone else say that we really aren't a violent society, despite what the news/tv/movies would sometimes have us believe. Thanks!

PS & RG: Good stuff! Can you share any books or references on this? This is very interesting!

As to d20 Modern, I don't know that I wanted to like it (as I have said, I like Alternity better) but I do. I almost wish that DND had been done this way for the flexibility that I see in this system. Also, the more I read about it on these boards, it also improves my opinion of it AND spycraft equally. It sounds like they both do what they want to do well.

As to nonlethal, yes, I didn't like it when I first read it. I had to read it several times to understand it. Perhaps, what is needed is a supplement with regards to damage. I was thinking that this fit a Fight Club style, where combat lasts a long time. Perhaps, after CON hits, a person takes a temporary point of CHA damage? Might be too extreme but the point is to show that someone looks beat up.

Just my .02.

Thanks again for the stories!

That is what the non-lethal damage rule in d20 Modern is all about, accounting for those who can't or won't (in my case) hurt someone else; which covers the great majority of humanity.

Not really. There are no limitations on shooting or stabbing someone; and even if the unarmed person is drunk or crazy he still can't knock anyone out.
Even a trained brawler (Brawl feat) needs a critical to have any chance of KOing anyone.
