Every town I go to is like a lock without a key

As Luccia and Lucky decide to ride together, the Total Taxi driver opens the door to the cab and gestures to the pair to enter, smiling and saying "Well ma'am, sir, I'm sure I can find a great place or two in the city. Why don't you get in, and we'll talk as we go?"

---

One of the Aries gangers notices Richard's stern eye, shrugs, and looks away with an expression of disappointment on his face, while the other has headed over to the bar and started up a conversation with Frank Germaine, the owner and operator of Sad Mary's.

The two Glorious Lords, on the other hand, look like they're completely smashed, and don't seem to be paying much attention to anything other than the occasional waitress that comes by with drinks as they take turns trying to get their paws on her. Though annoyed, she's used to this routine, and manages to dodge away nimbly without even a spill.

One of the other bouncers, a beefy fellow nicknamed "the Major," comes over to chat with Richard.

"You know, I do appreciate these guys helping out and all," the Major says while pointing a thumb at the lone Aries, "but things always seem to get too out of hand when some of them guys show up, you know?"

The Major eyeballs the pair of lucies with a look of half-exasperation, half-contempt.

"Ah well, nothing's happened yet, and the fights are going to start soon. You got any favorites?"

---

The not-quite-a-viking looks Shaun over and says "Five bucks, same as we charge everybody."

Shaun notices that there's actually quite a few fellows dressed much like the "viking" in front of him. Many of them have a tattoo of a strange but very familiar symbol, and most seem to be watching the crowd.

The strange but somewhat familiar symbol:

Richard shrugs. "Yeah, things get rough when they're about. But what are you going to do? Can't kick 'em out. Those Lucies, though...." he shrugs. "Them I don't like at all."

"I dunno about the fights. Half of the guys aren't too good and the other half I don't know about. I'll have to check if anyone goes up twice, watch 'em the first time and see how they do."

Luccia slides into the car, making room for Lucky on hte seat beside her. As the driver gets in, she remembers something she wanted to do on the way to...where ever they go.

"Can we please drive by D'Aubainne University. I want to get a look at the campus. After that, what do you reccomend for entertainment?"

"Five bucks seems fair for peace of mind." After all, it's not enough money to cause a ruckus about. Releasing the grip of the stunner, Shaun pulls a five dollar bill out of his pocket, and passes it over to the almost-viking. "Nice to know you'll be keeping an eye on my bike. I'd hate to see any those damn weirdos" He gestures over at a Lucie leaving the bar. "get their grubby hands on it. But I'm thinking I can rely on you to keep it safe."

Shaun enters Sad Mary's, and makes his way over to the bar. He orders a beer, and takes in the atmosphere. Now this is a bit more like it. This is a real bar. Even if one or two of the customers are a little... odd.

Traditionally drunk two parts Lovage, to one part brandy...

OOC: Sorry for taking so long to reply, I was trying to give ErichDragon a chance to respond, but I'm going to go ahead and move along now.

The Total Taxi driver nods at Luccia's request and immediately starts driving. The streets are narrow and cramped for the most part, but he makes his way through them easily (some would say "recklessly," but he seems to know what he's doing), and the ride is smooth and relaxing.

As he drives, he makes small talk, occasionally looking into the rear-view mirror while doing so.

Soon you arrive in the Plaza of Science, the center of D'Aubainne University. In the center of the plaza is a stage that's currently unused. Many students are in the plaza, some congregating, some partying. Several small book and snack vendors are also on the plaza, but everything is dwarfed by the three main buildings on the plaza; a large, imposing, gothic-looking structure identified by the sign in front of it as the Thorvald Administration Center, Briggs Hall, a building of steel and glass, and the Zefilli Hall of Fine Arts, which is mostly covered by a colorful, abstract mural.

Glancing at the back seat through the rear-view mirror, the driver says "So, this here is D'Aubainne University. Well, the middle of it, at least. There's a lot more to the place, but the plaza here is the center of it. Did you have anyplace in particular here in mind?"

---

Shaun sits at one of the few unoccupied tables in Sad Mary's as he waits for his beer to arrive and takes in the atmosphere. "Lively" isn't quite the word for it; more like "hyperactive". The music is loud, and the people are even louder. Smoke almost fills the air, and there's a strange excitement in people's voices; from the bits of conversation he hears, it seems like there's going to be prize fights tonight.

As he scan the crowd, he locks gazes with a disgusting-looking man near the stage; he's pale, dressed mainly in spiked black leather, and from underneath the greasy brown locks of hair coming down in front of his face can be seen scars that look to be a pentagram on his forehead. He stares back and smiles, baring a row of teeth filed down to points...

"Oh, I'm so sorry! I forgot to even ask you if you wanted your beer jumped or straight!"

Shaun snaps out of the lock with a start at the woman's voice, and sees the waitress that he had ordered a beer from standing beside him.

On the other side of the floor, the Major grunts. "Well, Frank says the Lords down there have a buddy of theirs fighting tonight. From what I hear, he's a real beast, too. I'm probably going to put some money on him, ya know? I thought good ol' Snarling Demon was going to be fighting tonight, but I hear she's shacked up at Ahmed's right now, still nursing that arm of hers. Damn shame..."

Two men jump up at their tables, drunkenly shouting at each other. They look to be almost at blows. The Major arches an eyebrow, looks at Richard, and says "It's your turn, you know. Unless you want the Aries boys to take care of it."

Lucky surveys the plaza of future suckers. They think they will be leaving here with knowledge, not realizing the people they learned from have never spent a minute in the world they are supposedly preparing their students for.

"So, looks like a nice enough place. What do you teach Luccia?"

~I sincerely hope it's liberal arts. Those are the easiest to seduce. Throw in a little insecere spirituality and it's back to the hotel room for me.~

OOC: Sorry Mickerus, I didn't know you were waiting for me. If it happens again, shoot me an email at ehoffm1@gl.umbc.edu. I have been keeping an eye on the thread.

Richard grins. "No way they're getting this one." With the calmness of a man who knows, even if he can't lay low the quarreling pair, there are half a dozen people ready to leap to his aid, he strides over to the two people and pushes them apart. "If there's a problem, settle it elsewhere. No fighting here outside the ring, got it?" He gives the two men a once-over.

Luccia watches the campus go by, taking in the ancient styled buildings as they go by. At the driver's question, she startles a bit, as if dazed for a moment. She finally manages to reply.

"If you know where the science and engineering classes are held, I'd like to see that area."

She turns back to her traveling companion and smiles thinly.

"I teach whatever I can find work doing. I have degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering and pharmacology, with a few other things thrown in for good measure. I do what I have to in exchange for research funding and lab space."
