[D20 Modern] "Scorched Earth", a setting in the style of Rifts or Fallout...

Pbartender

First Post
The more I look at D20 Modern, the more I think it would be a great system to use for a D20 future earth post-apocalyptic game in the style of Rifts or Fallout. I've got some ideas already, so I'm going to bounce them off you guys to get some feedback. Here goes...

~~~
I'd use the D20 Modern rules, with a few house that I won't go into here.
All basic classes and advanced classes (incuding the "special" settings adv. classes) would be available. This would emulate most Rifts OCCs.
A Ranger/Scout-based advanced class would be created to cover the "Wilderness Scout" idea, and a Bounty Hunter-based advanced class would be created to cover the "Headhunter".
Genetically and Chemically enhanced characters could be created using templates like the Moreaus...
New equipment, armor and weapons would need to be statted... Lasers, Ion Cannons, Power Armor, Hovervehicles, and Cybernetics, for example. Many of these could be adapted from D20:SW.
Most "aliens", "mutants" and/or "creatures from other dimensions" could be taken directly from D20Modern or Monster Manual creatures.
~~~

Any thoughts or suggestions?
Am I forgetting anything?

Problem: if you plan on letting anyone else use it, such as by asking people here to email you if they want a copy or if you post it on a web site, Palladium Books will send you an email telling you to stop and, if you still do it, expect their lawyers to come rapping on your chamber door.

PB has been very loud about their desire not to have their stuff converted to d20, which is why it's the only company you'll see a warning about over on WotC's messageboards.

Well, then... Hadn't realized that.

Thanks for the warning. My earlier post (hopefully) has been edited to keep Palladium from getting antsy in their pants.

The setting was meant to be for my oen personal edification, though I had planned on Websiterizing it.

Stick to fallout. Or even better, make up your own setting.

Anyone remember the old game TORG? I allways thought Rifts was very similar. TORG might be a good choice as a setting conversion.

Or: No one knew the war would cause the fabric of reality to weaken. Space time itself was worn thinner than hand me down socks and now it was possible to poke holes in it with only minor effort. Unspeakable horrors from our nightmares made it into the our world. People and technologies from our stories and fantasies began to cross over. Histories that never happened became real. Etc... you get the drift.

You need to take a look at Arsenal by Perpetrated Press it's perfect for a Techno-Magic Setting.
And the second book : Factory will have even more cool stuff for ya.
I hate that we will never see a d20 version of Rifts, I have always loved the setting but NOT the mechanics. Oh well don't wanna start up that thread. Mr. Trustrum is right, Palladium vigorously pursues anyone who even thinks about converting their property to d20.
I think you could probably take Urban Arcana cause some kind of Apocalypse to happen, mix in some of the stuff you discussed earlier and Voila, you've got your very own P.A. Techno-Magic Campaign and no lawyers are knocking on your door.
: )

I say stick with Fallout (its the easiest) If you do not already have a copy go to RPGnow and by Cyberstyles: ( I would suggest the whole bunch, well priced and decent product) but bang bang for sure it has most of the weapons from fallout already there and mostly OGC. its got the rules for Cyber stuff also.

I sure wish Palladium would learn where they can stick there egotistic %#@%

Sorry that was me in Fallout edited mode :)

I used to like some of what those idgits did now I wouldn't touch there product to put it to the torch.

I have an even better idea than d20 Modern for a "rifts style" game/setting. I haven't started it yet, but would like to soon: Dragonstar... Think about this:

-core classes include: fighters, mages, rogues, paladins, psions, mechanists etc
-core races: most anything, use ecl's for weird stuff
-hi-tech equipment is deadly in DS...
-magic items and spellware etc as techno wizard stuff
-a wide variety of "rifts style" classes could be recreated using Prestige Classes...

-if you think about virtually any class in a "rifts style" game you could recreate them with DS (cyber knight=paladin, soldier=fighter, wildernes scout=ranger, operator=mechanist, line walker=mage, mystic=sorcerer, borg=soulmech, pilot=rogue or scoundrel from Star Wars... it all works out...)

PS: This doesn't condone nor suggest the plaigarization of Palladium's IP, just some ideas as to ways to create your own Post-Apocalyptic games.
