Gee, where were you and your somber mood during the Great Hasbro/WotC Winter Layoff of 2000-2001?

Did you get depressed when d20 Modern designers Rich Redman, Owen KC Stephens (btw, Happy 35th B-Day), and others were let go, spelling doom for d20 Modern?

Heaven forbid you keep tab on Guardians of Order.

Hey, I gotta harp on you, man, for being more pessimistic than me.

AEG will bounce back.

WOTC is a completely different case. Since they are owned by Hasbro which is rolling into money, they are in no serious danger of actually going out of business. (And thanks to the OGL and d20 Modern being released via it, at least the various ex-employees can at least freelance)

But I actually was harping on about GOO when they had their trouble to make a more detailed, clarified annoucement. Not here, but over on RPG.net. And I don't even own any GOO products. I've just see this before - rumors of a companies demise actually bringing about their demise. Which sucks for everyone.

Nope. It's more like rolling into suits. The current WotC Prez is assigned by Hasbro and his prior experience includes working at Coca-Cola.

I'd love to see a Dark*Matter book get done. At this point, it would only need to be a softcover.

I'll even volunteer to write it. ;)

I should also have something interesting for the enthusiasts rather soon ...

d20 Martial Arts
Again, Vig has already done it well, as have the Game Mechanics. If WotC had some sense, they'd just buy Blood & Fists, get the boys from Udon to draw some nice ninja art, and print it.

d20 Crimebusters
Not the old-school TSR version...a sourcebook for all manner of urban cops-v-robbers fun.
I'd like to see them combine these ideas and do a Hong Kong/John Woo style book. You know, with all the wire-fu and some more exciting rules for gun battles (a la Spycraft) and a stunt system, the whole thing.

d20 Modern Player's Companion
General character options kinda thing.
If they could possibly do a better Modern Player's Companion than the utterly necessary, best-Modern-product-ever Modern Player's Companion that the original Modern writers released through the Game Mechanics/Green Ronin, I'd be completely amazed. At the very least, I hope they wouldn't be dumb enough to use the same name-- maybe call it the Hero's Guide like Star Wars, or to take a page from D&D, The Complete Hero.

And, like a horde of other people, I have high hopes for a Dark*Matter setting book. Hopefully, taking a cue from the novels and involving Jim Morrison....

I'd like to see a D20 Crime and Punishment book. I wonder how many GMs scratch their heads over arrest procedures, or rules on "police heat" or the likelihood of getting your bags sniffed at an airport.

What about the "Crime Scene" line from Hogshead? [sorry, stupid php/java/whatever website makes it impossible to give you a direct link. Which is almost annoying enough to forgo plugging their products in this post, but i guess i'll do it anyway.]

Unfortunately, when a company can't be bothered to make an annoucement clarifying their future after a bombshell about laying off most their staff, speculation is going to be rampant that most its game lines are dead. And once people think they are dead, they really will become dead. Why would anyone buy Spycraft now, when there is no assurance it's got a future?

Um, because a contained-in-one-book game is better than one strung out across multiple books? Because Spycraft 2.0 gives you everything you would ever need for the genres it covers, so there is no need for support? Because one thinks the notion of guaging the future viabilite of an RPG on # of supplements released is silly? Because it's just so good that, even if you want "support", it's worth putting up with that lack? Because there's no need for Spycraft-specific support, since it's D20 System [check out the Crime Scene line from Hogshead, for starters]? I can think of a whole passal of reasons to buy Spycraft, in spite of or even because of a possibly non-existent "future"; given assurances that it isn't dead, i can't see any reason not to buy it--save if you don't like it. And if you don't like it, well, what does its future or lack thereof matter?
