Which is why it is written in the form of a generic toolkit, just like how I would describe D&D's Unearthed Arcana (aka "The Big Book of Variant Rules").

The only that comes close to flavor are those brief descriptions of the eight campaign models.

Yeah, WotC is sticking with their trade dress template.

There is always the cybertaker feat for more cybernetics. I agree with your assessment though - d20 Future is broad but shallow. I suspect the theory is that 3rd party companies will take advantage of the Open Game License to add depth.

With the shortness of this Past book, there will be even more of a need for such supplements.

I would be more excited if it were a bigger book. 96 pages? d20 Future did a very shallow job of covering the future in 224 pages, I don't see how they can cover much at all in 96.

Well, you won't need nearly as many rules systems. Driving a cart is much more like driving a car than driving a space ship is. What will we need to do the past more than some feats, some new skill uses, some backgrounds, some equipment lists and some campaign models? That stuff didn't take 96 pages in Future, so it might do a much better job than future.

I dunno. I'd like to see air combat rules ("I've got you know, Red Baron!"), sailing ship rules ("Arrgh, matey! Yo ho ho ... and a bottle of rum!"), U-boat rules. And oh, what the hell, WW I & II mass combat rules.

Throw in maps that changed with the timeline. Names used in the past.

And if they're not going to include fluff about history, at least give us a list of good books to read, from which they based their game information.
