d20 Past for 8$ on Amazon!!!

There’s no mundane adventuring gear in d20 Past. None. No snuff boxes, no daguerreotype plates, no plumed hats, no pocket watches, no spyglasses. Nothing. This is inexcusable.

Quoted for emphasis. :) I have to agree, this was a pretty big ommission too.

What third party sources are available (PDF or print) that could either be used in lieu of d20 Past or in conjunction of it (for various eras)?

Shamon mentioned d20 Sidewinder: Recoiled, and Thrilling Tales.

There is also Adventure! d20. Anyone have that?

Are there any other sources, and how are they?

The core book for our past game is Sidewinder. It's an absolutely incredible book (and last I checked, you could get it *and* d20 Modern on amazon for $50). It's full of useful information on all sorts of things and a really flavorful text for the era.

Now I just wish we had a good source book on the era for other locations (say, India, China, and Japan...)

Adventure! is okay... really, I read through it after buying it and didn't really do much with it afterwards. It's full of fun fluff, that much I remember. All in all - unremarkable (but not bad).

Expeditious Retreat Press is working on their next title "The Silk Road", though I'm not sure how much it will address the period you guys are playing in.

For what it's worth

Perhaps it should be said of d20 PAST that in what few pages it was allowed, it makes for an excellent PRIMER for d20 Modern adventuring set in the past.
Honestly, I think d20 PAST is great. Every time I read it my imagination goes wild. Primer indeed!

For $8 you can't go wrong! :D

I've got d20 Past ... it's okay, but lacks many of the details mentioned above that I was also looking for. Personally, I'd love to see WotC make a series of 96 page books that basically take on various campaign models ... for example:
  • Gamma World: A Supplement for d20 Apocalypse
    Pages: 96
    $19.99
Included within are a score of advanced classes for use with Gamma World, as well as a handful of races, some organizational based prestige classes, campaign maps for areas & cities, and additional rules for mutations.
  • Gamma World: Menace Manual
    Pages: 96
    $19.99
Collected in this volume are creatures for any GM to pit against their players. Everything needed for each creature is here, including racial rules for players to use!
  • Gamma World: Mad Izzy's Catalog for the End of the World
    Pages: 96
    $19.99
Everyone needs gear! Come to Mad Izzy's for your adventuring needs! Weapons, vehicles, gadgets and artifacts ... you'll find them all at Mad Izzy's!
  • Pulp Adventures: A Campaign Model for d20 Past
    Pages: 96
    $19.99
Included within are a score of advanced classes for use with Pulp Adventures, as well as some organizational based prestige classes, campaign maps for areas & cities, and SFX rules for Pulp era mystery men.

I had started a thread over at the WotC Boards with the same info in hopes that others would chime in and tell WotC that there is some interest in good books for d20 Modern ;)

I think there are some very good books for d20 Modern - most of them aren't coming from WotC, however.

WotC's approach is like the Platte River - an inch deep and a mile wide. I prefer the approach taken by third-party designers for Modern such as The Game Mechanics, Dog House Rules, Adamant, Alternate Realities, and RPGObjects, that expansions should help a GM build on the core rules, and that adventures do not belong in rule books.

I agree whole-heartedly :) But there's a part of me that would love to see more d20 Modern books come out for specifics. It's honestly too bad that WotC doesn't look at these other books and realize that there's a niche for them :)

I'll add my voice to the chorus to Sidewinder:Recoiled being an excellent book, well worth the money to anyone doing a Western. My western campaigns actually use different rules set but I've still gotten tons of info out the Recoiled book such as lists, charts and gun info. I've only had the opportunity to run one gaming session using those rules and will be doing so again at the upcoming Central Massachusetts ENWorld Game Day.
