d20 Star Wars -- if you were writing a 3rd Edition, what would you change?

One thing that might be a bit more 'constructive':

The current space combat system uses these extreme damage rolls (6d10x2 for a single Laser cannon).
While it is sometimes fun to roll many dice (Shadowrun anyone), I don't thing this is neccessary, especially if you consider that the space combat system doesn't work well with the standard combat scales (Imperial Star Destroyer is what to a human?)

So, reduce hitpoints (maybe even use spaceshiptypes like creaturetpyes, with own HD Advancement and so on), and weapon damage.

Since we assume that most groups fly space transports, make space transport medium size, and the standard medium sized laserweapon dealing 1d8 (+energy modifier?) points of damage... (the longsword in space combat)

As to everyone else who wants to get rid of classes, VP/WP, and so forth, I don't find any of those things to be a problem, and rather like Vitality/Wounds.

Try playing WEG StarWars or a OGL game like M&M that doesn't have the class or hit point (VP/WP are hitpoints, just a variation of the theme) restrictions.

As it stands now, d20 SW is, of course this is my opinion, nothing more than D&D in StarWars guise. I'm not interested in playing D&D in space, if I was I'd have been playing StarJammer too back in 2nd Ed. I prefer a much fast and more open RPG system that you can really freewheel and do nearly whatever you wish with both character creation and development in my futuristic gaming.

I really don't think that SW gained anything, and actually lost a lot, in the switch to d20. I think it could have gained quite a bit if they'd taken an approach like Green Ronin did with M&M. Thats not to say I think the source material produced is bad, no actually most of its quite good and I'd buy it just to have if I was going to run a full SW campaign again... it can always be converted back to WEG or to another system like M&M.

Ah, I see now from your post why you're as adamant as you are. Believe me, I've been playing D6 Star Wars for eons. And I play Mutants and Masterminds as well; while I find the damage save to be an excellent mechanic for a superhero game, I don't particularly care for the idea in Star Wars.

But then again, I'm on the Spycraft Design Team, so I must have a thing for VP/WP.
