D20 Traveller Support

A large reason why I have not converted to D20 Traveller is because the support products suck, by virtue of being non-existant. So I was hoping someone out there has taken a look at D20 Future and other sci-fi D20 products and found them useful for running a Traveller based game? If so I would like to hear what you found to be useful with a short explanation as to why. I am particular interestedin systems that have items that could take a Traveller game beyond TL15. Preferably into the TL18 to 21 range.

http://www.travellerrpg.com/cgi-bin/Trav/CotI/Discuss/ultimatebb.cgi is t20 forum ask there.
Some of their products are the epic adventures, gateway domain source book, some traveller aides on weapons, henchmen, others stuff.

By clicking on the above link and then going to the Traveller20 section, I've found 6 paper books and 16 ebooks that you can pay for, and 12 free downloads that are teasers. Once you sign up for the free Citizens of the Imperium forum, you gain access to the flibrary which has 44 free entries (including a method for submitting your own files), a links section with jumps to 42 other websites providing Traveller support, and an entire forum that has been around since 2001 (at least) that you can mine for either crunch or fluff as desired.

I'm honestly not understanding what you are basing your idea that D20 Traveller support is nonexistant on. The exact opposite looks to be true.

Try walking into gaming stores. I have looked in gaming stores from San Francisco down to Bakersfield and east to Flagstaff, Arizona and Las Vegas. I couldn't find the d20 book let alone any support material.

The only books I do find, in stores or on-line, are the new re-prints of the old material.

That doesn't look like support to me.

So because a store doesn't have our product in stock this is a lack of support from our end? How is that? Did you ask any of them if they could get the books for you from their distributors?

From my limited experience with Traveller, it's always seemed to be something that you have to seek out. It won't be resting on a shelf in most places. It's more "niche" than any WotC product. It's good stuff, have the T20 and Gateway book. Buy it online, it's a good price. :)

* shrugs * So?

My FLGS don't have a lot of the print products mentioned here and praised about. I have to request special orders for them, which most FLGS do offer as a free service. If anything, your RPG shopping is limited to what the store and its distributor are willing to order in bulk (the ones perceived to make a large profit for them), and not depending on your own preference. They can only get a sense of which products they should carry based on pre-orders and/or customer demands. After all, they and their employees got to make a living.

If people have to hunt for a product the product is in all likelihood going to stay a niche product because no one is even going to know it exists. Traveller always seemed to rely on word of mouth more than any real kind of advertisement. Guess their happy being obscure.

But thanks for letting me know more product actually exists. Too bad so many more people won't ever know.

Actually, by starting this thread on this board, you've helped let more people know that T20 Traveller is out there with plenty of online support. Thank you for making the game less obscure.

Oh, and there are 12 copies of The Traveller's Handbook on Amazon with the lowest price being $30.89.

As I said, your FLGS retailers and distributors are the ones to decide which products they want to sell will make them the most profit. Which is why RPG shelves are getting shorter and TCG & boardgame shelves are getting the bulk of many FLGS's space. And as hard for you to believe, despite WotC's D&D success, RPG is still a niche "unplugged" game in the competitive market.

Good if you and your retailer/distributor have the same preference. Sucks if not.
