In my opinion, one aspect that makes a fighter so deadly is consistency, consistent hits and consistent damage. Start focusing on that + damage that comes after your sword's 3d6. That + damage is what you can count on. The weapon specializations and wp focuses are mandatory. Having a really good weapon is nice, but its how you use it. keep pumping up your strength ,for instance, if you get it up to 18 that will give you a +4 mod with a two handed sword that is a +6 to damage. add wp sp and you have a +8. if your big sword does 3d6 your min damage is 11 your max is 26 so your avg is 18 give or take. this is not bad at all for low lvl but you have to hit so dont worry about power atk right now and focus on hitting the monsters. If their is another melee fighter in the group like a monk, barb, or maybe even a tough rogue, FLANK! At low levels flanking can be the difference between hiting or missing. Also looking at flanking in a roleplaying standpoint your group could start building reputation for itself as a group of good tacticians which can later come in more handy if you have to impress a noble or high level soldier than just the size of your sword.
Dont forget that the chance to get hasted is only 1 or 2 levels away. That means you could be hiting the monster twice in a round for your 11-26 damage twice a round.
