Damage from Armor from Lycanthrophy

First Post
Recently my character contracted Lycanthrophy but has yet to change he is a medium half-orc cleric changing into a medium were-ape. He wares full plate. What damage should he take when he changes for the first time? How long will it take him in ape form to remove the armor? I expect he will damage the armor in his haste to remove it.

Any help would be great

Thanks

You sure the ape is medium? The MM ape is large size class. I myself kept the 3.0 no reach large creature on a 5 foot space and would not be surprised if othe DMs did the same.

Changing Form

Changing form is a standard action. If the change is involuntary, the character performs the change on his next turn following the triggering event. Changing to animal or hybrid form ruins the character’s armor and clothing (including any items worn) if the new form is larger than the character’s natural form; carried items are simply dropped. Characters can hastily doff clothing while changing, but not armor. Magic armor survives the change if it succeeds on a DC 15 Fortitude save. An afflicted character who is not aware of his condition remains in animal form until the next dawn. An afflicted character who is aware of his or her condition (see above) can try to resume humanoid form following a change (voluntary or involuntary) with a Control Shape check, but if he fails his check, he remains in animal (or hybrid) form until the following dawn.

You are correct it should be a large creature. But the DM and I decided that rather then have the character get the full effect right away we designed it to progress from a benefit standpoint over three levels like a prestige class. My character has the only one of two clerics in this world so a cure isn't likely. Also he contracted it directly from an artifact of the Moon and Madness Diety which will evenually become my character's diety.

So for his first change he will be medium but he will wreck the armor trying to get out of it. 1st edition had damage rules I was wondering if 3.5 had them as well

Thanks for the write up it helped

No idea. :D But if you want to repair the armor, treat ruin as reduce armor to 0 HP

If you wanted to be simple about it, deal (armor's hp) to the character. But that is probably a bit much ...

Can you explain what you mean by "no reach" with respect to the ape?
oops, when I said "no reach" I meant no extra reach as non-quadruped large creatures are usually given. So it has 5' feet reach leaving 10' reach to show up on the dire version of the Ape. At CR 2, the ape really does not need reach. Nor does a critter the equivalent of a gorilla need a 10x10 fighting area. [though it is wise to give it whatever ‘area’ it wants]

I liked how 3E statted the carnivorous ape. Bulky enough to get size penalties and larger claw and bite damage, but fits nicely in a 5’x5’ combat area.

This has nothing to do with the ape specifically, just your preference to 3.0 Face instead of 3.5 Space. I suppose a fair number of people prefer the 3.0 method (and this would be the subject of a different debate), but I'd doubt any others reduce the ape to 5ft reach.

Just to point out, the ape had reach in 3.0.

Actually, chainmail's spacing/no grid I liked a lot; 20mm= small, 25mm= Medium, 40mm/1.5 inch = Large. I just liked the 4 HD mound of ape meat on the 25mm base.

It had 10'reach in the first printing [$20] even?, My brain must be malfunctioning.
