D&D 5E (2014) Damage on a missed attack roll

Are there any classes in 5e that still do some damage on a missed attack roll? (melee, ranged, spell)

Meteor Swarm, technically.

Damage on a miss has a very vocal minority opposition, especially here.

Oh you're right. I was misremembering 3.5e.

Ice Knife kind of has that style of effect, but it's a spell attack followed by save negates.

While this is closer to what I'm looking for, it can still do no damage on a missed attack roll and a dex save for no damage.

Why I'm asking is there is a player in my group who is using a 3pp character and this character does half his level in damage on a missed melee attack. I'm just wondering if there is a precedence for this kind of thing in 5e.

That sounds like an ‘off-brand/untested’ class.
What... class is it?

Not that I know of in published WoTC material.
Maybe something in an Unearthed Arcana article. But that stuff is clearly flagged as experimental/play test.

Cant remember the name. Its a Kensei/Monk type 3rd party class supposedly based off of some anime character.

Disciple is the class name and the player had this to say about it "Homebrew from the Unearthed Arcana curated list". Not sure where he got from.
